About the Role
AWTC Water Treatment Consulting is a full-service consulting firm that provides water treatment assessments, Legionella prevention and control programs, and other water-related services for commercial, industrial, institutional, educational and health facilities. Due to client growth and increased service demand, we are seeking a self-motivated Laboratory Assistant & Field Technician to support our microbiology and wet chemistry operations at our headquarters in Jericho, NY. In this role, you’ll perform lab testing, process water quality data, and collect samples across the five boroughs. This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in environmental science, water quality, and building water systems — with room to grow into advanced technical and project roles.
What You'll Do
- Perform wet chemistry and microbiology lab testing (Legionella, HPC, Coliform).
- Review and report lab results with quality control checks.
- Collect water samples at client sites across NYC.
- Support data processing and report preparation.
- Learn regulatory requirements (NYC Local Law 77) and apply best practices for Legionella control.
- Work independently to meet tight turnaround times and deadlines.

Starting pay: $18-$19/hour (based on experience), with initial review after 6 months.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, Engineering, or related science.
- 1+ year of laboratory experience (academic or professional). Note, this is NOT a clinical laboratory, but some skills will crossover.
- Experience with microbiology plating is required.
- Demonstrated experience working in a lab where high accuracy and successful plating techniques were required.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Must be self-motivated, reliable and able to meet tight deadlines.
- This is an in-person role. Must be able to commute to Jericho, Long Island.
- No relocation or visa sponsorship available.
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8-hour shift
Occasional overtime, as needed
