Calibration Technician
Position Summary & Responsibilities:
This position will remain posted until filled. Location: Manhattan, KS
- Perform laboratory calibrations of mass and volume items such as weights and volumetric provers using procedures set forth by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).
- Follow written procedures to compare customer items against certified reference standards.
- Record measurement results accurately and maintain detailed calibration records using excel spreadsheets.
- Identify out-of-tolerance results and report finds to management staff.
- Assist with maintaining laboratory cleanliness, organization and environmental controls.
- Safely move and handle heavy or oversized items using forklifts, crane systems and other lifting equipment. No prior certification is required to apply for this position.
- Participate in training courses (minimum travel required), including those offered by NIST to build knowledge and maintain measurement proficiency.
- All work is performed in a controlled laboratory setting, with training provided.
Qualifications:
- Professionally minded individuals with up to two years direct experience related to physical sciences, physics, mathematics or any close related fields is preferred. Candidates may also qualify through a combination of relevant education, work experience, training or certification.
- Must be able to repetitively lift up to 50 pounds and 75 pounds at one time.
- Must know how to do perform basic algebraic and statistical functions as well as convert units of measurement.
- Physical ability to stand for long periods of time and crouch occasionally.
- Employee must have a valid Class C (or higher) Kansas driver’s license or equivalent license from another state. Employee is responsible to maintain an acceptable driving record to safely drive state vehicles and be willing and able to fulfill all job-related travel normally associated with this position.
Preferred Qualifications (Not required):
- Safely move and handle heavy or oversized items using forklifts, crane systems and other lifting equipment. No prior certification is required as training will be provided upon hire.
- Prior experience working with scales, other weighing and measuring devices is helpful.
