Transportation Trainer Specialist- Special Needs Services - Bilingual

You will be provided a variety of experience in a Hybrid environment, completing ADA paratransit eligibility interviews in office and Travel Training participants in field on public transportation. Mobility Management Partners, Inc. (MMP) is a non-profit social enterprise company providing services to various public and private agencies. MMP's Mobility Training Department in Chicago is seeking individuals for a Hybrid position, working in both the Travel Training and ADA Eligibility departments. As such, new employees will be provided with a set schedule of in-office (ADA) and in-field(Travel Training) days. The two roles for this position are outlined as follows.

Travel Trainers are responsible for educating individuals with disabilities and seniors how to use public transportation, utilizing both classroom and in-field settings. This is a field position based in Chicago where frequent travel is required throughout the area.

ADA Eligibility Specialists are responsible for reviewing ADA paratransit application materials, intake and professional verification forms, conducting in-person interviews and functional assessments and completing required documentation. This is an office-based position in Chicago.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES AND ABILITIES:

The duties and responsibilities listed herein are representative of the expectations for each position, with both projects requiring similar skill sets, with skills that transfer well from one assignment to the other:

Travel Training:

  • Educate participants with disabilities/seniors to safely utilize public transit resources in a variety of settings
  • Create custom-designed trainings for every participant
  • Maintain appropriate database entries and other documentation of all travel training activities
  • Provide input and feedback through collaborative processes to enhance and improve existing and new policies and procedures
  • Manage individual travel training schedule as well as schedules of client sessions and events utilizing appropriate scheduling and tracking software solutions and other tools

ADA Eligibility Specialist:

  • Reads and interprets ADA paratransit applications, intake forms, and professional verification forms
  • Conduct in-person interviews to assess mobility capabilities and review any supplemental information provided
  • Determine and Conduct functional physical and/or cognitive assessment with applicants
  • Provide written eligibility determination documentation to Client within ADA required and contracted time frame
  • Review interview results and application paperwork and follow up on assessments and professional verification, as needed

Both Positions:

  • Maintain appropriate professional communications with clients, management and RTA staff
  • Participate in staff meetings with leadership and/or Client
  • Participate in initial and on-going training as required by Transdev and Client
  • Maintain a positive attitude when interacting with individuals, support Staff and caregivers

Success in this position typically requires the following abilities:

  • Ability to learn, understand and teach the use of transit maps and schedules to individuals with disabilities/seniors
  • Ability to work independently and constructively in a field environment with the ability to meet project commitments in a timely manner
  • Excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills, including the ability to support the safety and well-being of program participants at all times
  • Ability to utilize MS Outlook, Excel, Word, and other software tools to effectively schedule field and office assignments and document and record all other work-related activities
  • Ability to maintain ongoing effective communications with management, staff and other respective parties through effective written and oral communication skills
  • Strong working knowledge and skills in the use of MS Office Suite tools including Teams, and proficiency in other computer tools such as Google Maps, transit apps, and Zoom

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in social services, or a related field, or equivalent work experience required.
  • 2 years’ experience working with individuals with disabilities/seniors
  • Public Transit Experience required
  • Demonstrated experience in interviewing and providing ongoing assessments and documentation skills for individuals with disabilities/seniors
  • Knowledge of/sensitivity to general issues and mobility challenges faced by individuals with disabilities/seniors in utilizing public transportation systems
  • An understanding of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) regulations and other applicable local, state, and federal laws governing the provision of transportation services to individuals with disabilities
  • Bilingual in Spanish a plus

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Valid Illinois driver’s license, vehicle insurance, good driving record and reliable transportation
  • Certification in Adult CPR and First Aid (training will be provided)
  • Clear background check in all aspects - work history, education, other

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee must have the ability to be outdoors during inclement weather. The employee must have the ability to react and provide reasonable assistance to participants in the event of an emergency. The employee must occasionally lift, carry, and otherwise transport and/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee is regularly required to ride public transit.
