Schedule: Sunday 12 PM – Saturday 12 PM (varied shifts)

About the Internship

Woodruff Scout Camp is seeking motivated students interested in Hospitality, Culinary Arts, Tourism, Food Service Management, or Customer Service to join the Food Team for Summer 2026.


 

Our Food Team is responsible for serving 1,500+ meals three times a day, as well as supporting all additional food needs across camp—including staff meals, special events, cookouts, and themed dinners. This high-volume food service environment provides strong hands-on experience in culinary and hospitality operations.


 

Food Team Interns gain real-world experience in large-scale food service, front-of-house and back-of-house operations, meal production, and team-based service leadership.


 

Position Summary

Food Team Members support one of the largest seasonal dining operations in Scouting, helping prepare, serve, and clean up from over 4,500 meals every day. Responsibilities include maintaining the dining hall environment, ensuring food safety standards, assisting with kitchen operations, and keeping the dining experience running smoothly for thousands of campers and staff.


 

This is an excellent internship for students seeking foundational experience in culinary, hospitality, and tourism fields.


 

Key Responsibilities


 

Meal Service & Food Operations

• Assist in preparing, serving, and cleaning up meals for campers and staff

• Replenish food items on serving lines and help guests as needed

• Support special meals, theme nights, and campwide food events


 

Kitchen & Back-of-House Support

• Maintain cleanliness and sanitation in kitchen and prep areas

• Operate dishwashing equipment and clean cookware, utensils, and trays

• Assist with inventory, receiving deliveries, and organizing food storage


 

Dining Hall Management

• Maintain a clean, organized dining hall environment

• Support traffic flow and seating during high-volume meal service

• Model a positive, cheerful attitude for campers and staff


 

Food Safety & Standards

• Follow hygiene and food handling protocols

• Apply food safety procedures learned during training

• Maintain clean, safe workspaces at all times


 

Qualifications & Requirements

• Minimum age: 16 (per Scouting America policy)

• No prior food service experience required—training provided

• Ability to follow hygiene and safety guidelines

• Strong teamwork and communication skills

• Able to stand for long periods and perform moderate physical tasks

• Positive attitude and commitment to Scouting America’s mission

• Optional: First Aid/CPR/AED certifications available during staff week


 

Compensation & Benefits

• $300+ per week

Work Environment

Food Team Members work primarily in the dining hall and kitchen environment, with occasional outdoor duties during cookouts or special events. Staff must be comfortable standing for extended periods, working in warm or busy conditions, and lifting moderate weight.


 

Housing and meals are provided for the entire internship period.
