About the Internship
Woodruff Scout Camp is seeking an organized, data-driven, detail-oriented student pursuing a degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Operations, Logistics, Hospitality Management, Procurement, Accounting, or related fields to join us as our Supply Chain & Food Procurement Intern.
This internship provides hands-on experience in inventory management, food ordering, cost tracking, vendor coordination, budgeting, and operational logistics within a large-scale food service environment. You’ll support an operation that feeds 1,500+ people three times a day, gaining real-world experience in high-volume supply chain management.
The position works closely with both the Operations Manager and the Manager of Provisions, providing excellent exposure to real-world operations leadership.
Position Summary
The Supply Chain & Food Procurement Intern helps ensure that all food service operations have the correct ingredients, supplies, and tools needed each day. This includes managing inventory, coordinating with vendors, tracking spending, and helping maintain accurate records for budgeting and food acquisition throughout the summer.
This role is ideal for students looking for practical, resume-ready experience in procurement, logistics, supply chain operations, or hospitality purchasing.
Key Responsibilities
Food Procurement & Ordering
• Assist the Manager of Provisions in ordering food, beverages, and supplies
• Track daily and weekly product needs for serving 1,500+ meals per service
• Ensure orders are placed on schedule to prevent shortages
• Communicate with vendors and confirm deliveries
Inventory Management
• Maintain accurate inventory of dry goods, perishables, and supply items
• Conduct regular stock checks and update digital inventory logs
• Track usage patterns and identify trends in food consumption
• Notify leadership of low-stock or urgent inventory needs
Spending & Budget Tracking
• Record and organize invoices, receipts, and delivery logs
• Track food spending using spreadsheets or tracking tools
• Compare expected cost vs. actual cost
• Assist Operations Manager in weekly and seasonal budget summaries
Logistics & Distribution
• Help coordinate delivery schedules with vendors and receiving staff
• Assist with moving, staging, and storing food and supply deliveries
• Ensure proper rotation (FIFO) and organization of supplies
Cross-Team Communication
• Work closely with:
- Operations Manager
- Manager of Provisions
- Food Team Leads
- Dining Hall Leadership
• Communicate upcoming shortages, special orders, or delivery changes
• Support inventory needs related to theme meals, staff meals, and campwide events
Operational Support
• Maintain clean and organized supply areas
• Assist with special events requiring unique food procurement
• Support end-of-week and end-of-season closing inventory
Qualifications & Requirements
• Pursuing a degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business, Hospitality, Accounting, or Operations
• Strong organizational and analytical skills
• Experience with spreadsheets (Excel or Google Sheets)
• Ability to track data and maintain accurate records
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Ability to lift moderate weight and assist with food deliveries
• Positive attitude and desire to support a fast-paced operational environment
• Must uphold Scouting America’s Youth Protection and safety policies
