Tournament Operations Intern

THE WESTERN NEW YORK SECTION, PGA:

The Western New York Section, PGA of America (WNYPGA) is a group of approximately 275 PGA of America Golf Professionals serving the needs of golfers across Buffalo, Rochester, and Northwest Pennsylvania. The Section was founded in 1925 and is one of the 41 Sections that make up the PGA of America. The PGA of America, founded in 1916, has grown into the world’s largest working sports organization with over 29,000 Members and Associates. Geographically, the Western New York Section is bordered to the west and north by Lakes Erie and Ontario respectively. The southern border dips about 2 miles into Pennsylvania and includes the cities of Erie, Warren, and Bradford. The eastern border is a line that extends along and beyond NYS Route 14. There are approximately 200 golf facilities in the Section. The Western New York PGA also operates a non-profit and charitable foundation called PGA REACH Western New York that focuses on its three founding pillars; youth, military, and diversity/inclusion.


 

WORK SCHEDULE:

The Tournament Operations Intern works event days, primarily weekdays but occasionally on weekends, generally 6-10 hours per day, depending on assignment. The Tournament Operations Intern may also occasionally be utilized for in-office work throughout the week at the Section office located at Glen Oak GC in East Amherst, NY. 


 

RESPONSIBILITIES WOULD INCLUDE BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO:

Assisting the WNYPGA Section & Foundation Staff with professional tournament administration/operations, as well as certain aspects of marketing, promotion, and communication as needed. 

  • Use critical thinking to solve problems and tackle tasks with minimal supervision
  • Interact courteously with WNYPGA Professionals and stakeholders
  • Assist with events before, during, and after non-traditional work hours
  • Pre-tournament software setup and management
  • Assist staff with all onsite physical setup and operations including but not limited to:
    • First tee
    • Registration
    • Tee markers
    • Cart staging
    • Scoring duties
    • Post-tournament breakdown and pack up
  • Event photography as needed
  • Create and post social media updates before, during, and after each event via all digital channels
  • Assist in the creation and execution of MailChimp eNewsletters
  • Perform additional duties as assigned


 

INTERNSHIP DATES:

The internship duration is approximately three months: Start in May/Early June 2026 - End in August/September 2026


 

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Candidate must be self-motivated and punctual
  • Applicant must be at least 18 years of age with a Driver’s License and access to a vehicle
  • Have an interest in golf or sports administration as a career
  • Golf knowledge is highly desired - tournament experience preferred
  • Physically able to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Computer and social media literate
  • Prioritizing and executing duties in a fast-paced environment
  • Organized and extremely detail-oriented
  • Proficiency in writing, Google (G) Suite, and Canva
  • Ability to travel as needed
  • Ability to be flexible and work occasional nights or weekends


 

INTERNSHIP LOCATION:

The office is located at Western New York PGA, 711 Smith Road, East Amherst, NY 14051 (Glen Oak Golf Club). This intern will spend the majority of their time at events, traveling to golf courses to assist staff in conducting Junior and Professional tournaments throughout Buffalo & Rochester, NY, and Erie, PA. Additional time will be spent in the office as necessary.

  • Hourly pay at $16/hr
