Residential Camp Environmental Science Education Intern

POSITION OVERVIEW:  Project Oceanology is seeking energetic, enthusiastic college students to live on‑site at our summer camp and support hands-on marine science programming. Ideal candidates enjoy science, the outdoors, and working with youth in an educational camp setting. Applicants should have a strong interest in ocean and environmental science and be pursuing a degree in education, marine science, or a related field. 

Under the guidance of camp directors, interns will: 

● Supervise residential summer campers during activities, free time, and meals 

● Assist with medication administration (training provided) 

● Co-develop and teach lessons under the instruction of Project Oceanology educators 

● Provide a safe, supportive, and friendly learning environment. 

ABOUT US: Project Oceanology is a non-profit marine science education and research facility. Our mission since 1972 has been to nurture interest and inspire enthusiasm for science and for our planet’s marine environment from our waterfront facility in Groton, Connecticut. Project Oceanology is a year-round, marine science educational organization governed by local school districts and in collaboration with universities and other educational institutions. Our vision is to be the center of excellence for inquiry and place-based science and marine education, serving the evolving needs of our global community. POSITION 

DESCRIPTION: The intern works as part of a team guided by camp staff to deliver marine science education aboard research vessels, along the shoreline, in marine laboratories, and in classrooms. The position requires the use of independent judgment, initiative, maturity, confidentiality, and communication skills. 

The position is based at Project Oceanology in Groton, CT. Interns will reside in the hostel on premises; room and board provided in addition to a daily stipend of $80. 

Scheduled work hours are varied, Sunday through Friday. Successful completion of staff training activities, including CPR, First Aid, and Administration of Medication, is required. 

TIMELINE:

● Camp Sessions: June 21-August 14, 2026
