Intervention Specialist
Southeast Ohio Classical Academy (SOCA) is a classical charter school in Logan, Ohio. SOCA is a Hillsdale K-12 Member School through the Barney Charter School Initiative. SOCA will serve students in kindergarten through eighth grade for the 2026-2027 school year and will grow to grades K-12 by adding one additional grade level each year.
SOCA is hiring faculty and staff members for its third school year who will embody and execute the mission of Southeast Ohio Classical Academy:
To train the minds and cultivate the hearts of young men and women in moral character
and civic virtue from a classical curriculum in the liberal arts and sciences.
Each staff and faculty member at Southeast Ohio Classical Academy is respected as a professional of the learning community. Staff and faculty are expected to live as role models for the students who have been entrusted to our team for formative instruction and care.
The Intervention Specialist is a faculty member who works closely with the Principal to support students with both gifted and special education needs, both within the general education classroom and in small group settings. The Intervention Specialist is primarily viewed as an educator. Although the administrative responsibility of an intervention specialist is significant, this individual must be driven to spend their time training the minds and cultivating the hearts of our students.
Primary duties and responsibilities:
- Planning and teaching purposeful content-rich and language-rich lessons by following the Hillsdale K-12 Program Guide with fidelity. Education does not need to be reinvented with the ever-changing trends of modern education. Instead, our excellence in reforming education comes from “going back” to tried and true content and practices.
- Communicating frequently and consistently with parents about students’ behavioral and academic progress.
- Continuously improving instruction and content knowledge through coaching, professional development, and independent study.
- Developing, implementing, and tracking plans for special education services, including determining present levels of performance, annual goals, and benchmarks or short-term objectives.
- Supporting general education teachers in implementing appropriate accommodations.
- Coordinating meetings with the student intervention team for students with academic and behavioral issues to provide guidance and offer school support for student achievement.
- Creating a classroom culture of decorum, studiousness, order, joy, and wonder.
- Maintaining high expectations for both academics and behavior through a commitment to schoolwide policies and procedures and the classical model.
Required qualifications of a Classical K-6 Classroom Teacher:
- Evidence of a Bachelor’s degree or higher in Special Education, Education, or a related area.
- A current teaching license issued by the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce.
Required characteristics and tasks of a Classical K-6 Classroom Teacher:
- A high moral character that models the Core Virtues of SOCA.
- A love of learning for its own sake.
- Willingness to receive and implement coaching from observations and professional development opportunities in the pursuit of excellence as an educator.
- Consistency in reporting plans to parents, administrators, intervention, and instructional support staff.
- Elevation of the language and collaboration between fellow faculty and staff members.
- Understands the difference between the authority and responsibilities of a parent/ guardian and a teacher.
- Willingness to prepare and participate in faculty seminars and meetings for personal and professional growth as a life-long student of classical education.
Desirable qualifications and characteristics of a Classical Intervention Specialist:
- Masters or above in Special Education or a related area.
- Extensive experience in the classroom and/ or special education.
- Experience in classical education.
