Brooksource's utility client is hiring an early-career, modeling-focused Junior Data Architect position responsible for helping shape the architecture of a new enterprise data environment. The individual will play a key role in designing scalable data models and translating business requirements into structured, long-term data solutions. This position requires an inquisitive, proactive professional who enjoys design thinking, collaboration, and influencing data strategy while continuing to grow technically.
The ideal candidate is organized, communicative, and comfortable speaking up without prompting. They thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced environment and are motivated by building strong data foundations that support analytics and downstream use cases.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Lead and contribute to data modeling efforts supporting the enterprise data lake and cloud data platform.
- Design, document, and maintain logical and physical data models aligned to business and analytical needs.
- Translate business requirements into scalable, well-structured data architecture.
- Partner closely with data engineers, analysts, and business stakeholders to ensure architectural alignment.
- Serve as a key contributor and point of guidance for data design and modeling best practices.
- Support data ingestion and transformation efforts to ensure models are implemented accurately.
- Contribute to metadata management, documentation, and data standards.
- Promote data quality, consistency, and usability across the data environment.
- Participate in planning, scoping, and estimation of architectural and data modeling work.
- Develop a strong understanding of the enterprise data ecosystem, tools, and long-term data strategy.
Minimum Requirements:
- 1+ year of experience in a data-focused role (data engineering, analytics, database, or architecture-adjacent), or equivalent experience through coursework, internships, or applied project work.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent transferable experience.
Skills:
- Proven experience designing and building data models (must be clearly demonstrated on resume).
- Experience with data modeling tools such as Erwin or similar.
- Strong proficiency in SQL and relational data concepts.
- Experience with Python and cloud-based ETL or data transformation workflows.
- Familiarity with cloud data platforms such as Databricks or comparable technologies.
- Understanding of data lake and analytical data architecture patterns.
- Working knowledge of data quality, standardization, and documentation practices.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the confidence to share ideas and raise concerns.
- Highly motivated with strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to collaborate effectively across technical and business teams.
- Comfortable managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
