Position Description:
One (1) Temporary-exempt, full-time (40 hours) position. Exempt employees are considered "at will" and serve at the discretion of the appointing officer.
*NOTE: Position is to cover for an employee on leave. Duration of Assignment is from February 2 - May 29, 2026
The Technical Instructional Assistant supports the Cinema Department in its student success by managing its facilities, records, student workers, operations, asset tracking, fund management and purchasing, OSHA standards, social media and web presence and industry and vendor relations. The TIA will stay-up-to-date with the latest industry trends, equipment and software to advise and manage purchasing requests. Under supervision of the Department Chair, this position will assist the department with department lab supervisor and student worker scheduling, equipment budget, tracking purchases and troubleshooting/maintaining equipment and its inventory. May be required to work some nights and weekends as needed.
Job Duties:
• Attends meetings and in-service presentations (e.g. workshops, in-services, etc.) for the purpose of acquiring and conveying information relative to instructional support functions.
• Coordinates assigned support functions (e.g. creating group and individual work areas, developing instructional materials for students as needed and requested by faculty, working with student schedules, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring support for student learning.
• Maintains systems (e.g. development of review templates for budgetary controls, department website and social media pages; personnel records; security system for film and digital equipment, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring oversight of department budget and department information, through the utilization of CCSF software system.
• Manages administrative systems (e.g. finance, security, intra-office communication protocols, departmental events, training and supervising support staff, etc.) for the purpose of collaborating with various CCSF departments, faculty, students and general public and ensuring optimum utilization of department.
• Manages student lab aides (e.g. hiring, training, supervising and arranging work schedules, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring optimal utilization of lab aides for student learning, providing learning materials, providing a safe learning environment, and meeting mandated requirements.
• Monitors individual students in a variety of settings (e.g. lab areas, work/instructional rooms, work groups, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining a safe and positive learning environment.
• Oversees daily operations (e.g. IR and Basic Editing and Advanced Editing Labs, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring safety and appropriate organization of daily activities.
• Oversees office workflow (e.g. tracking and filing systems, utilization departmental software programs, etc.) for the purpose of assisting in department operation and ensuring historical documentation.
• Provides instructional support (e.g. guiding students through academic/learning processes, teaching concepts, reviewing and assessing completion of assignments, supervising tutors, providing feed-back, recommending study and testing strategies, answering questions, etc.) for the purpose of implementing study, testing, critical thinking, and student learning strategies for improving academic success.
• Repairs film equipment for the purpose of implementing satisfactory operation of daily processes.
• Responds to inquiries from a variety of people (e.g. students, instructors, administrators, community professionals, tutors, etc.) for the purpose of providing necessary information for referral and solving problems.
• Serves as ‘main point person' (e.g. inventory control regarding film, equipment, labs, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring proper protocol procedures are followed use of materials and equipment.
• Submits data and informational materials (e.g. special reports to instructor of record, providing reasonable accommodation for students based on verified disability, adhering to OSHA regulations, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the provision of necessary reporting.
• Supports departmental events (e.g. film festivals, alumni screenings, guest speakers, etc.) for the purpose of providing media/cinema production for CCSF.
• Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
Minimum Qualifications:
Completion of a four-year college or university with a baccalaureate degree, with major course work in photography and/or cinematography, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Desirable Qualifications:
• Experience scheduling and training others.
• Experience cordinating student workers in a Cinema/Film Issue Room.
• Film industry relationships.
• Service-oriented attitude focused on student success and creating a positive environment.
• Experience collaborating with faculty, staff and student teams.
• Ability to multitask.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Experience maintaining websites, databases and social media.
• Demonstrated ability to stay-up-to-date with leading film industry trends.
• Demonstrated experience and familiarity with equipment such as BlackMagic Pocket Cinema 4K & 6K, BlackMagic 4K Ursa mini pro, Canon T5i, T7i, R8,Sony PMW-EX1R, 16mm Bolex. Experience with anarray of LED lighting, camera and sound equipment, digital and film projectors, and other peripherals.
• Demonstrated Macintosh hardware experience as well as software experience with MS Office, Google Drive, Premiere Pro, After Effects, Adobe Creative Cloud, ProTools, Movie Magic, Final Draft, Social media software, website and HTML editing.
• Banner 9, Web4 and college-related database skills.
Benefits:
New employees hired on or after October 1, 2013 will contribute 2% of salary to the San Francisco Retiree Health Care Trust Fund (RHCTF).Additional Days Off with Pay. As stipulated in the appropriate bargaining agreements and board resolutions, Classified employees working full-year (260 days/year) work schedules are granted, as paid days off, the days between Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, as well as an additional five (5) paid days off during spring break. Eligible school-term-only (STO) employees who are not scheduled to work the designated days between Christmas and New Year’s Day shall be granted three (3) paid days off to be scheduled by mutual agreement between the employee and supervisor. Eligible school-term-only (STO) employees who are not scheduled to work the days designated as Spring Break will not be paid for these days off.
