We also publish two monthly magazines—Hardware Retailing and Paint & Decorating Retailer—in print and digital formats, proudly serving the 40,000 independent retailers across North America.

Job Overview

The Publishing Intern will support the editorial team in content creation, editing and production of two monthly magazines, plus online and social media content. This internship provides hands-on experience in the full publishing lifecycle—from content development and editing to layout coordination, fact-checking and audience engagement. The intern will gain exposure to industry standards, deadlines and collaborative workflows while contributing meaningfully to magazine issues and related projects.This role is designed to build foundational skills in editorial operations, communication, and content management within a professional magazine environment.

Responsibilities 

  • Assist with various writing and editing projects for print, online and social media 
  • Take part in three magazine publication cycles
  • Interview sources via email and phone

Qualifications

  • Completed at least 2-3 higher education classes in communications, journalism, English or related courses
  • Pass a basic editing and grammar test
  • Willingness to work hard
  • Desire to learn in a fast-paced environment 
  • Detail-oriented, curious and passionate about storytelling, media, and publishing. 

Compensation

  • Part-time, temporary internship 
  • In-office three days a week (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday), 9 am to 3 pm (~18-20 hours a week)
  • May 18 through July 24
  • $10/hour
  • Observance of holidays and NHPA office closures
