Recess All-Stars Sports Coach

The Recess All-Stars Coach at Lincoln Park Elementary will be responsible for introducing students grades 2-6 to a variety of sports and physical activities during recess, fostering a love for physical fitness and teamwork, and developing foundational skills in a supportive and engaging environment. The role requires a dynamic individual who can motivate and inspire young students while creating a positive and inclusive atmosphere.

**Key Responsibilities:**

1. Program Development and Implementation:
  - Contribute to the design and delivery of age-appropriate sports and physical activity programs that introduce students to a range of sports including, but not limited to, soccer, basketball, tennis, and track and field.
  - Develop 30 minute lesson plans that emphasize fundamental movement skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship.

2. Instruction and Coaching:
  - Provide instruction in a clear, engaging, and motivating manner to students of varying skill levels.
  - Demonstrate sports techniques and ensure students understand and practice proper form and safety measures.

3. Student Engagement:
  - Create a positive and inclusive environment that encourages participation and enthusiasm.
  - Use effective behavior management strategies to maintain a constructive and respectful classroom environment.

4. Assessment and Feedback:
  - Observe and assess students' progress and skill development, providing constructive feedback to support their growth.
  - Adapt programs and individual instruction based on students’ needs and progress.

5. Collaboration and Communication:
  - Work closely with school staff, including physical education teachers and administrators, to align sports programs with school objectives and curriculum.
  - Communicate with parents and guardians to provide updates on student progress and promote the benefits of physical activity.

6. Event Coordination:
  - Organize and supervise sports events, mini-tournaments, or friendly matches to give students practical experience and foster a sense of competition and achievement.

7. Safety and Equipment Management:
  - Ensure the safety of all students during physical activities by following established safety protocols and guidelines.
  - Manage and maintain sports equipment and facilities, ensuring they are safe and in good condition.

**Required Skills:**

- Strong Communication Skills: Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and school staff.
- Leadership and Motivation: Capable of inspiring and guiding students to participate actively and enthusiastically in sports activities.
- Organizational Skills: Efficient in planning and executing sports programs and managing resources.
- Adaptability: Ability to adjust instruction and activities to meet the diverse needs and skill levels of students.
- Teamwork: Ability to collaborate with colleagues and work effectively in a team-oriented environment.

**Minimum Requirements:**

- Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher in Social Work, Physical Education, Sports Science, Recreation, or a related field preferred. A relevant certification or specialized training in coaching or youth sports is highly desirable.
- Experience: Previous experience working with elementary-aged children in a coaching or educational setting is preferred.
- Certifications: CPR/First Aid certification required or willingness to obtain upon hiring.
- Background Check: Successful completion of a background check in accordance with school and state regulations.

**Preferred Qualifications:**

- Coaching Experience: Experience coaching multiple sports or leading diverse physical activity programs.
- Child Development Knowledge: Understanding of child development and age-appropriate physical activity strategies.
