Primary Duty

The Community Manager’s primary duty is to cultivate, coordinate, and communicate with volunteers and members within several local Operating Units, ensuring each volunteer builds trusted, ongoing relationships with a targeted group of neighbors as part of Surus’ mission to increase civic participation and community stewardship across conservative communities.

Core Responsibilities

  • Draft regular communications to Operating Unit volunteers and members to maintain positive morale and share updates on activities.
  • Establish and administer Operating Unit internal social media and messaging systems (i.e., Meta, Discord, etc.).
  • Recruit and train 'Social Chair' volunteers (or the equivalent) from each Operating Unit’s volunteer base to serve as local community managers and hospitality leads.
  • Create and implement a regular internal communications cadence with Operating Unit members.
  • Collaborate with the Surus Enterprise Communications and Marketing Teams to prepare and distribute newsletters and internal materials.
  • Solicit Operating Unit volunteer leadership teams for written submissions to include in newsletters and communications.
  • Monitor, measure, and report on volunteer engagement (participation rates and frequency).
  • Develop and implement strategies to increase volunteer involvement and community impact.

Skills and Abilities

  • 2+ years of experience as an online community manager, volunteer coordinator, or event planner.
  • Proven ability to maintain a positive and encouraging attitude with volunteers and members.
  • Leadership ability to motivate and direct volunteer 'social committees.'
  • Comfortable working independently or remotely.
  • Strong multitasking and project coordination skills.
  • Proficiency in web-based social media and messaging systems.
  • Willingness to travel to Operating Unit locations for meetings, volunteer activities, and training.
