CompassRN is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit supporting the next generation of nurses—from middle school through licensure. Through immersive summer nurse camps, mentorship, and year-round learning, we create meaningful pathways into nursing for students across the Greater Houston area.
Position Overview
We're seeking a motivated college student to serve as Assistant to the Executive Director and Summer Camp Coordinator. You'll support all aspects of our summer nurse camps—from student recruitment and onboarding through camp execution and wrap-up. This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on nonprofit experience while making a meaningful impact in healthcare education.
Duration: February - July 2026
Time Commitment: 10-15 hours/week (Feb-May), 20-40 hours/week (June), ~10 hours/week (July)
Camp Details: Three camps in June (two single-day, one 4-day) within the Texas Medical Center
Compensation: $1,500 stipend upon completion + parking & meals during camps
Location: Hybrid (remote w/occasional site visits Feb-May & July; in-person June at Texas Medical Center)
Academic Credit Available: Coordinate with your institution
Key Responsibilities
Student Management (February-March)
- Manage camp applicant communications and inquiries
- Coordinate interview scheduling and applicant tracking
- Assist with selection process and send notifications
- Onboard accepted students and collect required forms
Camp Planning (April-May)
- Assist Executive Director with logistics, scheduling, and supply coordination
- Support volunteer recruitment and training
- Create marketing and social media content
- Coordinate with healthcare partners, vendors, guest speakers
Camp Execution (June)
- Serve as on-site Camp Coordinator
- Assist with daily operations, volunteers, and camp leads, catering
- Oversee attendance, safety protocols, and logistics
- Document activities and ensure positive participant experience
Wrap-Up (July)
- Support post-camp follow-up and evaluation
- Organize final reports and archive materials
Qualifications
Required:
- Currently enrolled college student
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Comfortable working with middle and high school students
- Reliable transportation to Texas Medical Center for camps and site visits
- Ability to pass background check
Preferred:
- Major in Public Health, Nursing, Education, Social Work, or related field
- Experience with youth, events, or healthcare settings
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus
