Scottsdale Management Fellow

Are you an aspiring local government leader looking to gain hands-on experience in city management? The City of Scottsdale is offering a paid, full-time opportunity for graduate students and recent graduate students to gain hands-on experience in local government with a focus on city management.  

 

The Scottsdale Management Fellowship is designed to give aspiring city leaders an opportunity to develop the skills necessary to succeed in a dynamic local government environment. Fellows work directly with city leaders on relevant projects that not only provide fellows with real-world and hands-on experience but also help shape Scottsdale’s future.  

 

Fellowship Projects 

 

Management fellows work will be separated into three main areas: 

Fellowship Signature Project- Fellows will research and present recommendations to city leadership on a city issue of interest.  

Skill Building Assignments- Fellows will have additional projects designed to build key city management skills such as cross-departmental collaboration, stakeholder engagement and time management.  

Ad-hoc Assignments- Fellows will also help contribute to the day-to-day operations of the City Manager’s Office.  

 

In addition to working on influential projects with city leadership, Management Fellows will have the opportunity to receive one-on-one mentoring with City Manager staff on management skills and career opportunities.  

 

This position is full-time and will last approximately 8-10 weeks. The ideal candidate will be enrolled in a graduate degree or a recent recipient of a graduate degree and has an interest in local government management.  

 

The Scottsdale Management Fellowship is an 8-week summer position with an hourly rate of $24 per hour. If you are interested from outside the Phoenix Valley, there is an additional $3,000 travel stipend to accommodate travel and relocation needs.  

 

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated (within the past year) from a graduate-level program 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills 
  • Demonstrated interest in local government management 
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively  
  • Commitment to learning and professional growth.
