POSITION: Assistant Principal (2 positions)
LOCATION: Starpoint High School (1 position), Starpoint Middle School (1 position)
CERTIFICATION: NYS School Building Leader (SBL) or NYS School Administrator and Supervisor (SAS), candidates eligible for certification are encouraged to apply
QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum of 5 years of successful experience in education, including teaching and/or administration
Graduate study beyond Master’s degree with concentration in school administration
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students, families, and staff members
DESCRIPTION:
The successful candidate will embody Starpoint’s commitment to empowering students to reach their maximum potential within a welcoming and inclusive school community. The Assistant Principal plays a key role in modeling mutual respect, open communication, acceptance of others, and a growth mindset. Under the direction of the principal, he/she will work with students, faculty, and staff members to ensure a school environment that is academically challenging while maintaining a focus on social-emotional growth.
We are seeking a leader with an understanding of the educational and developmental needs that are unique to students at the middle/high school level.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists the Principal in the overall administration and supervision of the middle/high school.
- Executes disciplinary procedures as established by the building’s behavioral expectations and District Code of Conduct. Manages student discipline in a fair and consistent manner, utilizing proactive approaches such as restorative practices to encourage positive behavior.
- Coordinates support staff services within the building.
- Assists in screening, interviewing and recommending candidates for professional and support staff positions.
- Carries out all duties related to the Dignity Act, including investigating DASA reports, following up with stakeholders, and submitting annual SSEC reporting.
- Oversees progress monitoring and participates in progress monitoring meetings.
- Supervises evening and weekend activities.
- Coordinates student activities and events, e.g., field trips, co-curricular and/or extra-curricular, wellness events.
- Coordinates and supervises the administration of examinations, state assessments related data reporting and state reports.
- Provides leadership and support to faculty and staff in the implementation of effective instructional practices and curriculum.
- Collaborates with the Principal to develop and implement the school's vision, goals, and improvement plans.
- Provides leadership that fosters a positive and inclusive school culture that promotes student engagement and values student voice.
- Works collaboratively with Student Services staff to address student needs and provides leadership to that department.
- Oversees and manages specific school programs and initiatives as assigned by the Principal.
- Communicates effectively with students, parents, staff, and the community.
- Actively participates in professional development activities to enhance leadership skills and knowledge.
- Assumes all responsibilities of the Principal in the Principal's absence.
- Assumes responsibility for other tasks as assigned by the Principal and/or District administration.
SALARY: Per the Starpoint Administrators’ Association Contract
