Institutional Giving Manager

The Oregon Museum of Science and Industry is seeking a full-time Institutional Giving Manager. The Institutional Giving Manager plays a key leadership role in advancing OMSI's institutional fundraising program by managing a portfolio of foundation, corporate, and public funders, with an emphasis on high-level and complex grants and gifts. This position focuses on securing significant institutional funding to support OMSI's general operations, exhibitions, capital projects, strategic initiatives, and multi-year campaigns. The role is responsible for the full grant lifecycle, from prospecting, to strategy and proposal development, to post-award compliance and stewardship. This role is responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding a portfolio of local, regional, and national funders, with a current annual revenue goal of $750,000+ in institutional gifts and grants. Annual increases in unrestricted contributed revenues of 5% or more are expected, with a goal of increasing total unrestricted and restricted support to $1.2 million annually within five years.

Reporting to the Director of Institutional Giving, the Institutional Giving Manager collaborates with the Institutional Giving team, the rest of the Development team, program staff, executive leadership, and cross-functional teams to develop compelling proposals, ensure alignment with funder priorities, and maintain rigorous compliance with public and private grant requirements. This position brings specialized expertise in public and government grant writing and reporting, while also managing large-scale proposals from private foundations and corporations.

The Institutional Giving Manager actively integrates diversity, equity, access, and inclusion throughout all aspects of their work and contributes significantly to strategic prospect development, development communications, and department-wide initiatives.

  • Development and Grant Preparation:
    • Knowledge of, or ability to quickly learn, the institutional funding landscape-including public/government granting agencies-and understand funding trends, eligibility criteria, and characteristics of competitive proposals.
    • Demonstrated excellence in interpersonal, written, and verbal communication, with a strong emphasis on proposal development, donor communications, and public presentations.
    • Ability to develop and implement long-term, strategic fundraising plans in collaboration with a team of development professionals and cross-departmental stakeholders.
    • Proficient in the use of CRM systems (e.g., Raiser's Edge, Salesforce), with a focus on accurate record-keeping, data management, and pipeline tracking for institutional fundraising.
    • Knowledge of prospect management and moves management principles within a complex development operation, and ability to apply these strategies to institutional donor relationships.
    • Strong technical proficiency with Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides) and Microsoft Office tools, particularly Excel, for budget development and grant tracking.
    • Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects, deadlines, and priorities while maintaining attention to detail and strategic alignment with organizational goals.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience demonstrating advanced writing, research, and analytical skills.
  • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in institutional fundraising, including foundation, corporate, and government grant development.
  • Demonstrated experience:
    • Securing high-value grants ($100,000+) from public and private funders.
    • Managing the full lifecycle of complex grants, including federal awards.
    • Writing successful proposals and reports across diverse program areas.
    • Collaborating across departments to gather content, build budgets, and align goals.
  • Pre-employment checks, such as criminal background checks and reference checks.

The Institutional Giving Manager has a salaried rate of $74,622.87 per year, and is eligible for a competitive benefits package that includes:
