The AAPC Foundation Summer Internship Program offers students a full-time, paid, nine-week applied learning experience with a designated AAPC member firm. Interns gain practical skills, professional networks, and insight into how campaigns, data, and technology shape civic engagement—preparing them to become the next generation of leaders in the field.

Bergmann Zwerdling Direct (BZD) is a political communications firm that partners with Democratic candidates and progressive organizations across the country. BZD creates persuasive direct mail, digital content, and strategic communications to help campaigns connect with voters and communicate their values. Interns gain a front-row seat to fast-paced, impactful campaign work and support races at every level of office, building hands-on experience across the full lifecycle of political direct mail and digital communications.

Responsibilities include:

• Support the development of mail pieces—from initial concept and drafting through proof review and production
• Assist with digital asset management by organizing creative files and maintaining project tracking systems across multiple campaigns

This position is ideal for candidates who are:

• Detail-oriented, with strong proofreading and writing skills and the ability to multitask effectively
• Experienced or interested in copywriting, creative writing, or message development
• Comfortable using Slack and possess strong general digital literacy
• Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Political Science, Communications, Journalism, Public Policy, Marketing, Design, or a related field
