Job Title: Advanced Language Institute (ALI) Internship Program 

Location: Hybrid  

About Us 

The Loann Crane Advanced Language Institute (housed in the Center for Languages, Literatures & Cultures) established an endowment fund in 2014 to support a variety of language initiatives and scholarships.  

Internship Overview 

We are seeking four interns at the Advanced level of language learning (taken 3000 level and above courses in modern world languages) to get trained to teach languages and intercultural competence to middle school students participating in the Global Citizen Summer Camp.  

Responsibilities 

  • Participate in online training sessions and learn best practices to engage middle school students acquiring a world language and intercultural competence 
  • Design the curriculum for the summer camp and create lesson plans and activities  
  • Teach the summer camp  

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Proficiency in a world language  
  • Taken 3000 and above level courses in the language  
  • Ability to work in a team 
  • Strong communication skills 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365  
  • Currently enrolled undergraduate at OSU (Columbus) 

Duration: The 5-week internship experience will be divided into the following segments:  

Duration of the program: 5 weeks (May 18th-June 18th, 2026) for a total of 105 hours.  

  1. Online Synchronous Training: 3 weeks (May 18th-June 4th) (Total 45 hours- 15 hours per week). This includes a mandatory micro-teaching session that will be held in-person (Columbus campus) on Friday, June 5th, 2026.
  2. Teaching Global Citizen Summer Camp (for middle school students): June 8th-12th, 8:30am-5:30pm on OSU (Columbus) campus (Total 55 hours-average of 10 hours per day) 
  3. Online Internship Experience Debrief (reflections, debriefs and wrap up): June 15th-18th (Total 5 hours

*There will be no meeting on Monday, May 25th, 2026 due to Memorial Day holiday; Online meeting times TBD in consultation with interns.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Students graduating in May 2026 are not eligible to apply
  • International students can apply as long as they are degree-seeking. CPT will not be required since this is an on-campus internship 

How to Apply 

Interested applicants should apply through Handshake and submit the following: 

  • Resume
  • OSU transcript (or advising report) showing completion of a 3000-level or above course in the language of instruction.  
  • 1 recommendation letter from a Professor or Instructor commenting on the student’s proficiency level in the language of instruction. 
  • A 350-word statement of purpose outlining the motivation for applying for the internship
