Associate Attorney

Patterson Bookwalter PLLC is a boutique family law firm that handles both litigated and non-litigated domestic relations cases in all Northern Virginia jurisdictions. The firm has specialization in Collaborative family law practice.

Overview of the Role:

Patterson Bookwalter is hiring an associate attorney to join our team! The ideal candidate will have 1-2 years of experience, with a demonstrated interest in family law and litigation. Virginia bar licensure is required (Maryland and/or DC are a plus). Trial experience is required; will consider clerkship experience in lieu of trial experience for the right candidate. 

Duties:

  • Provide litigation support to partners and build and manage own caseload, including drafting and reviewing pleadings and discovery, pretrial motions practice, meeting with clients, and researching legal authority;
  • Prepare for and represent clients in cases involving family law throughout Northern Virginia including in City of Alexandria, Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun, and Prince William County Circuit and Juvenile and Domestic Relations courts; 
  • Prepare for and represent clients in settlement conferences, depositions, hearings and trial, and mediations; 
  • Meet with and advise potential new clients;
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications: 

  • Juris doctorate required 
  • Licensed by Virginia State Bar
  • 1-2 years litigation experience 
  • Demonstrated interest in family law (preferred) 
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to learn firm technology and work in a paperless office 
  • Effective time management
  • Ability to transport self to/from office, court and other locations to represent clients
