Position Summary
This opportunity is made possible through Community Health Corps Montana (CHCM), an AmeriCorps program connecting service-minded individuals with organizations working to improve health and well-being across Montana.
Big Sky Youth Empowerment is a nonprofit adventure-based mentoring program serving vulnerable teens in the Gallatin Valley for nearly 25 years. BYEP combines weeknight social–emotional learning workshops with weekend outdoor adventures, ensuring youth in grades 7–12 have access to belonging, purpose, and supportive community—at no cost to families.
BYEP is preparing for future program expansion and is seeking a CHCM AmeriCorps member to help build the systems, stories, and tools needed for that next chapter.
About the AmeriCorps Project
The AmeriCorps member will support BYEP’s storytelling, operations, and curriculum organization efforts. This role is perfect for someone creative, organized, and excited about youth development, outdoor adventure programming, and community-based service.
This role is ideal for someone who is a creative, organized, and adventure-ready individual who loves youth development, outdoor programming, and capturing meaningful stories.
Key Service Activities:
Storytelling & Communications
- Photograph and film workshops and adventure outings
- Create and edit content for social media, newsletters, and a new blog
- Help support BYEP’s brand and messaging as the program explores expansion
Operations & Adventure Support
- Assist with planning and preparing weekend adventures
- Help develop systems for gear organization, food donations, and transportation logistics
- Support events and document operational processes for future use
Curriculum Organization
- Organize BYEP’s curriculum materials
- Build easy-to-use toolkits with activities, prompts, and SEL resources
- Categorize materials and document adaptations for consistent use across locations
Ideal Candidate Traits
- Creative and organized
- Strong communicator and relationship-builder
- Comfortable with outdoor adventure settings (no expertise required)
- Excited about youth development and community engagement
- Approaches service with humility, reliability, and a willingness to learn
Eligibility Requirements
- U.S. citizen, U.S. national, or lawful permanent resident
- At least 18 years of age with a high school diploma or equivalent
- Reliable transportation and successful completion of FBI/NSOPW/state background checks
Service Term Commitment
- Full-time service (~40 hrs/week), January 12 – August 21, 2026
- Minimum of 1,200 total service hours; attendance at all required trainings and meetings
