VETERAN SERVICE OFFICER
Oneida County is accepting applications to fill a full-time Veterans’ Service Officer position.
JOB SUMMARY
This County Board–appointed position serves as Department Head and provides leadership, oversight and administration of all Veterans’ Service Office operations. Key duties include supervising staff, managing the annual budget, maintaining required accreditations, preparing reports for County committees, and conducting outreach to promote awareness of veteran benefits. The position advises and advocates for veterans, dependents and survivors on a wide range of federal and state benefits, represents claimants in appeals, coordinates the DAV van transportation program, assists veterans in crisis, conducts home visits, and plans the annual Memorial Day ceremony. The Veterans’ Service Officer supervises office staff and must be able to perform all duties required of the office.
QUALIFICATIONS & EDUCATION
Qualified candidates must be a WI resident who has served on active duty under honorable conditions and meet qualifying service requirements. At least two years of administrative experience with computer use and customer service work is required. Strong communication skills, independent judgment, and the ability to maintain strict confidentiality are essential. Applicants must have a valid WI driver’s license. A Notary Public license and accreditation through Veteran Service Organizations are preferred but may be obtained after hire.
WAGES, HOURS AND BENEFITS
This full-time position has a 2026 starting annual salary of $67,424 to $77,055 plus excellent fringe benefit package including Wisconsin Retirement, health, dental and vision insurances and PTO (Paid Time Off) with the ability to carryover unused hours into future years. Wage is contingent on previous education and experience. Position will generally work weekdays but may occasionally require some night and weekend hours to attend meetings and events.
POSITION START DATE & INTERVIEW INFORMATION
The position is expected to begin on or near February 16, 2026. Applicants selected for further consideration must be available for an interview on January 16, 2026.
