Data Engineer Intern

Position Summary

We are seeking a Data Engineer Intern who will be responsible for supporting data collection, organization, and analysis across the business. This includes working with large datasets from multiple sources, performing data profiling and quality checks, building dashboards and reporting tools, and identifying trends that support operational and strategic decisions. You will assist with projects that improve data accessibility, enhance reporting capabilities, and strengthen the company’s data foundation.

By the end of the summer, you will have a working knowledge of how data flows through the organization, how to build reporting assets that support leadership, and how to translate analysis into clear recommendations. You will also gain exposure to core data engineering practices used in a mortgage investment environment. The goal of the summer internship program is to reward high performing individuals with an offer to return full time upon graduation depending on business needs.

 

Responsibilities & Duties

  • Participate in internship program events and activities.
  • Communicate with peers and program leaders throughout the program.
  • Collect, clean, and organize data from various internal and external sources.
  • Analyze large datasets to uncover trends, patterns, and operational insights.
  • Translate findings into recommendations that support business and technical teams.
  • Work with cross-functional partners to support data-driven decision making.
  • Build and maintain dashboards and reports to track performance metrics and KPIs.

 

Required Experience, Skills, & Competencies

  • Current undergraduates (rising juniors and seniors)
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools and software (e.g., Excel, SQL, Python, R).
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Experience within the mortgage or related industry is preferred.
  • Experience and knowledge of data analysis and data profiling.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Eagerness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience and knowledge in information technologies, processes, software development lifecycles, and strategic initiatives.
  • Working towards a bachelor’s degree in data science, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related field.

 

Preferred Experience

  • Experience working with SQL or Python for data analysis.
  • Familiarity with Azure.
  • Understanding of data warehousing concepts and ETL workflows.
  • Experience building dashboards using tools like Power BI, Tableau, or similar platforms.
  • Exposure to data quality checks, data profiling methods, and metadata management.
  • Knowledge of APIs, JSON, and other common data exchange formats.
  • Experience working with financial, mortgage, or real estate datasets is a plus.

 

A reasonable estimate of the total compensation range for this role is $27/hr.
