Assistant Professor of Industrial/Analytical Chemistry
The Department of Natural Sciences at Shawnee State University invites applicants for an Assistant Professor of Industrial/Analytical Chemistry position, beginning Fall 2026.
The successful candidate will be expected to regularly teach lecture and laboratory courses in general, analytical, and industrial chemistry. Shawnee State University is planning to expand its industrial chemistry program and is seeking a candidate with a strong understanding of the chemical industry and related sectors.
New hires will be expected to:
- Serve as the primary faculty liaison for industrial partnerships and special projects.
- Lead the development and enhancement of the industrial chemistry curriculum.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to revise and update the curriculum.
- Serve as chair of the Industrial chemistry advisory board and will schedule at least one meeting a year between academic and industrial stakeholders to solicit advice and suggestions as to curricular needs and future directions.
- Develop three online courses forming the foundation of a new Certificate in Industrial Chemistry.
- Maintain and keep in good working order all chemical instrumentation used in the industrial chemistry program.
- Create standard operating procedures for analytical instrumentation used in the industrial chemistry program

Minimum Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry or a closely related field
- Possess excellent communication skills and ability to communicate effectively with students with a wide range of skills
- Ability to use technology in teaching
- Ability to use collaborative learning techniques and student-centered methods of instruction
- Ability to work in a multiethnic/multicultural environment
Preferred Qualifications
- At least three years of relevant industrial experience
- Experience running and maintaining analytical instrumentation, such as: GC-FID, GC-MS, LC-MS, ICP-OES, UV-VIS, and Raman
- Prior teaching experience in higher-education
