APS Intake Counselor
Adult Protective Services (APS) is the state agency responsible for investigating allegations of abuse, neglect, and financial exploitation of vulnerable adults and providing protective services. Our mission is to protect and support vulnerable adults through collaboration with numerous internal and external partners. The population served by APS is diverse in ethnicity, socioeconomic status, beliefs, and life experience. Working with such a unique population requires someone who is flexible, creative, and resourceful. The APS Intake Counselors are the first line of defense in helping vulnerable adults across Tennessee who are at risk of abuse (physical, emotional, sexual), neglect, or exploitation. This position is part of a centralized call center in middle Tennessee where the counselors work from home but may be required to transition to office when needed. Counselors are responsible for their own internet and private work area when working at home to ensure confidentially. This position requires a flexible work schedule and availability to be on call after hours, on weekends, and holidays on a regular basis.
Responsibilities:
• Document information from referral sources via telephone, face, email, internet, and faxes to obtain the required information to complete an intake report and complete extended intakes when needed to obtain additional information to determine the victim’s level of risk and vulnerability.
• Documents information into clear and concise narratives based on information from the reporting source while following narrative procedures.
• Analyzes and interprets information received to determine if report meets criteria for assignment based on APS policy and procedure and submit accordingly.
• Ability to use computer programs such as Microsoft products and the APS case management system (TNAPS) to document intake reports (emails, fax, internet, phone, other and upload documents in the appropriate case file and ensure information is correct for the official record of the department.
