Family Care Aide (NY)

Who We Are

Excellence Community Schools (ECS) is a Charter Management Organization (CMO) supporting schools in the Bronx, NY and Stamford, CT. Our programs are based on a proven, nationally recognized model, which originated in our flagship school, the Bronx Charter School for Excellence, a National Blue Ribbon School.

Our schools prepare young scholars to compete for admission to and succeed in top public, private, and parochial high schools by cultivating their intellectual, artistic, social, emotional, and ethical development. We accomplish this by offering a challenging and rigorous academic curriculum, which at the earliest of grades has an eye towards college preparation. To achieve this, our schools create a supportive and caring environment that at all times has high expectations of all students. We offer a differentiated, project-based learning environment that seeks to develop high-level analytic and critical thinking skills in all of our students. REPORTS TO: Managing Director of Family and Community Engagement and School Leader

 

Qualifications:

High School diploma/GED, AA preferred

 

The Family Care Aide is a school-based position and serves as the primary point of contact for families at the school. This is a 12-month position.

Major Duties:

  • Initiating and maintaining regular contact with families
  • Establishing a trusting relationship with families
  • Assisting to strengthen school-family relationships
  • Conduct Home Wellness Visits with the social worker or school leader
  • Promote family wellness through programs and events
  • Provide assistance to families to improve their skills to optimize the home environment for the child's development and well-being
  • Assist in establishing contact with community resources
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Skills:

  • Experience working with, or assisting, at-risk children and families in a community setting
  • Strong listening skills
  • Ability to identify family strengths and foster self-sufficiency and independence in families
  • Ability to be satisfied with on-going projects where positive outcomes are often not immediately apparent
  • Emotionally mature and capable of exercising judgment
  • Ability to handle stressful situations
  • Knowledge of community resources
  • Successful parenting and/or childcare experience
  • Respect for and sensitivity to the needs and rights of others
  • Ability to establish trusting relationships and work effectively with mother, fathers, and extended family
  • A belief that children need to be nurtured
  • Bi-lingual (English, Spanish, Bengali, etc.)

 

Candidates who do not meet the above requirements will not be considered.

 

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications. Salary range $45,000-$50,000
