Faculty Affairs HR Intern Job Description 

Job Summary:  

The Office of Faculty Affairs seeks an HR Faculty Affairs Intern for Spring 2026.  The intern will primarily be responsible for assisting with administrative and project functions within the department. The intern will also support the Director of Faculty Affairs in several exciting projects including research (online) and training initiatives.  The intern will gain real-world human resources experience. 

This is a Spring internship (January through May), in which the intern will work at least 20 hours/week in Faculty Affairs during regular business hours (Monday through Friday, between 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.). The salary offered is $15/hour, and the intern will report to the Director of Faculty Affairs in the Office of the Sr. Vice Provost for Faculty and Academic Affairs. 

As a part of meeting the learning objectives for the internship, the Faculty Affairs Intern will have the opportunity to present to the department, select executives and faculty on the following: skills learned, accomplishments, department process improvement suggestions, and overall internship experience. 

Internship Responsibilities: 

Under the close mentorship of professional staff in Faculty Affairs, the intern will undertake a range of on-going activities and assigned projects of varying professional complexity requiring knowledge and expertise gained through the completion of a relevant higher education degree.  

Duties may include: 

Participating in the planning and implementation of unit projects and initiatives within area of expertise. 

Assisting with developing department operations manual/process documents. 

Assisting with editing/revising and updating user training materials. 

Receiving guidance, training, and mentoring from professional personnel in planning and carrying out activities and assignments. 

Performing miscellaneous job-related duties; including answering the office phone on an as-needed basis. 

Completing Faculty Affairs projects, such as new faculty onboarding initiatives/tasks. 

Supporting the Faculty Affairs team with UAB PeopleAdmin recruiting platform updates and projects. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: 

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. 

Ability to understand and follow complex, detailed technical instructions. 

Ability to work both independently and in a team environment. 

Strong organization skills and attention to detail. 

Good judgment regarding confidentiality and respect for sensitive materials. 

Ability to understand and use Microsoft Office software (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Word) 

Interest in human relations. 

Must be pursuing a degree in Human Resources, Organizational Communication, Business or related degree. Senior or Graduate level preferred.
