Surgical Services Aide
About the Position:
Works concurrently with OR staff to care for patients prior to and following their surgical procedures. Key functions include assisting patients, cleaning and preparing care rooms, troubleshooting equipment, responding to requests from surgical team or patients.
This position provides care for or assistance to patients of all ages, including: newborns, pediatrics, adolescents, adults and older adults.
What we are looking for:
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training.
- Current CPR certification or within 3 months of date of hire.

Preferred:
- Certified Nurse's Aide
- Previous Surgical Aide experience
- Flexible, adaptable, and patient centered care
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Transport patients or assist patients to walk to unit upon admission, within unit to bathroom, surgery, etc., and from unit upon discharge.
- Assist patients with dressing and undressing for admission and discharge from unit.
- Take and record temperature, blood pressure, pulse, respiratory rate, and oximetry reading on all patients upon admission, on all endoscopy patients post procedure, and on other surgical patients when directed.
- Serve and collect food trays and assist patients as needed.
- Wash unit furniture and items, apply fresh linens, transport, and reposition carts and chairs as necessary.
- Replace station supplies as needed. (i.e., suction supplies, tissue, O2 supplies, etc.)
- Maintain files (i.e., number of forms, discharge instructions, etc.)
- Set up room for next day's procedures.
- Do terminal daily cleaning of monitors and other equipment used on patients. Do monthly cleaning and maintenance of monitoring equipment.
- Establish and carry out a monthly cleaning routine for Phase 1 & 2 cabinets and carts.
- Promote service excellence by demonstrating polite, cooperative and respectful behavior to both internal and external customers.
- Safeguard security and confidentiality of data/information according to HIPAA guidelines.
