Logistics Specialist
Primary Responsibilities
The Logistics Specialist is responsible for the movement and management of the organization’s inventory and goods.
- Manages transportation planning and scheduling
- Manages storage of goods at off-site locations
- Determine most efficient and cost-effective method of freight movement
- Analyze and optimize logistical procedures
- Execute logistics plan to move products to appropriate destinations
- Review freight rates and other transportation costs to ensure cost management practices
- Ensure timely pick-up and delivery of shipments
- Address and resolve shipment and inventory issues
- Liaising between customers, sales, and manufacturing facilities
- Analyze data to access performance, discover logistical problems and devise plans for improvement.
- Negotiate contracts
- Planning and negotiating technical difficulties
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in business or related field or 3 years of experience in a similar role
- Background in rail systems, operations, and pricing
- Experience with a traffic management system (TMS) such as CarrierPoint
- Knowledge of federal and state regulations on motor carriers and drivers hours of service (HOS)
- Knowledge of general requirements of insurance and claims processes for motor carriers
- Highly skilled in Microsoft Office
- Demonstrated knowledge of logistics functions and best practices
- Excellent record-keeping skills
- Proven project management skills
- Strong knowledge of communications practices, tools, and techniques
- Advanced proficiency with data analysis
