Emerson Coleman Fellowship

ECF Application

At the NAB Leadership Foundation, we are committed to building a bright and diverse future for broadcasting. This 4-month program allows college students a glimpse into what it is like to be a part of the broadcast industry, which is fast-paced, monumental, and fun!

We are seeking Five Emerson Coleman fellows (ECF) to participate in our paid television programming, content production training, and recruitment program. Emerson Coleman served as the head of programming for 25 years at Hearst Television. He is among the industry’s most highly regarded programming executives. This program will honor Coleman’s career by providing diverse students with the exposure, information, and experience they need to begin a television programming or production career.  Mr. Coleman will participate in the fellow selection and provide expertise in programming content.

The ECF program will provide college sophomores, juniors, seniors, recent graduates, and industry professionals with mentoring, training, and professional development in the following areas: 

 

  • Content Development for Television
  • Storytelling, Conceptualization, and Visual Articulation
  • Story Framing, Promotion, and Positioning
  • Shooting, Writing, and Editing Television Shows.
  • Creative Process
  • Ordering and Scheduling Television Shows
  • Building an audience
  • Syndication
  • Digital and other non-linear content.
  • Building Your Resume
  • Preparing for the Interview
  • Networking As You Build Your Career
  • Multicasting

Fellows will have the opportunity to attend Network Upfronts presentations in May 2026

Intern at a station in their market from June  2026 - July 2026

During the program, each participant will be responsible for a capstone project in August 2026. Participants will receive training from industry professionals and guidance from their mentors as they complete their projects.  

Minimum Requirements:

  • College, Sophomores, Juniors, Seniors, and recent graduates (Class of 2024-2025)
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • A degree or interest in liberal arts, creative writing, communications, media, TV and film Production, and other television-related majors
  • You have strong written and oral communication skills, are organized, detail-oriented, and are a team player.
  • You are authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship by the NAB Leadership Foundation
  • Must Provide a portfolio or social platforms and a professional website
