Cybersecurity Threat Analyst Intern

 

About NEOCC

The Northeast Oho CyberConsortium (NEOCC) is a regional business association that strengthens the information security programs at Northeast Ohio companies, clinical healthcare centers, higher education institutions and other organizations by creating a high-trust community of professionals that shares information on cybersecurity threats and best practices, and utilizes NEOCC’s tools, platforms and resources for increase resilience and collaborative defense.

About the Opportunity

NEOCC seeks an intern for the spring semester for research and production of NEOCC’s twice-monthly Threat Scope, short reports based on open-source information focusing on current threat topics of interest to NEOCC members.

The intern will work under the direction of the NEOCC’s Cybersecurity Specialists and Executive Director interact regularly with members of relevant NEOCC Special Interest Groups (professionals from NEOCC member organizations who have responsibility for specific functions such as cyber threat intelligence and vulnerability management) and its broader Analyst & Defender Community. The intern will also work closely with these groups and the NEOCC staff team to support other key programs.

Preference will be given to students enrolled in higher education institutions which partner with NEOCC and students originally from the region. Candidate evaluation will begin in mid-January and an offer is expected to be made no later than early February. The internship is expected to conclude in May.

Responsibilities

· Researching intelligence sources

· Summarizing threat activity.

· Gathering and sanitizing threat indicators of compromise (IOCs).

· Creating clean, accurate write-ups following NEOCC’s standard format.

Skills Needed

· Interest in cybersecurity and learning threat intel.

· Clear writing skills.

· Ability to research and summarize information.

· Basic understanding of cyber concepts (malware, phishing, vulnerabilities).

· Comfortable using spreadsheets for IOC lists.

 

What You Will Learn

· How threat intel teams structure reports.

· How to analyze threat actors, TTPs, and CVEs.

· How to communicate technical risks simply.

· How to identify and document IOCs safely.

Position Details

· Rate: $23/hour

· Expected hours: 5-6/week

· Duration: through spring semester

· Location: Remote (NEOCC operates as a virtual organization, but convenes members on a regular basis for meeting, and you will have the opportunity to join those sessions in person)
