About the Internship
The LGA Airport Maintenance Department is responsible for maintaining LaGuardia Airport's physical plant and upholding compliance with all applicable codes, rules, and regulations. LGA Maintenance is responsible for coordinating with other airport, aviation, and Port Authority units to achieve agency goals and provide exemplary customer experience. The intern will learn and experience what goes into maintaining a world-class airport, from budgetary process, contract management, project oversight, to operational readiness.
Responsibilities
- Assist with all aspects of budget preparation and submission for LGA's six (6) Maintenance units; including but not limited to budget entry, participation in individual unit meetings as well as meetings with the Aviation Finance team and General Manager's Office, creation of cost benefits analysis and data visualizations, etc.
- Conduct field survey utilizing handheld GPS device for asset management data entry and visualization in ESRI ArcGIS Field Maps
- Lead project to develop automated contract tracker that integrates existing software. Survey Maintenance staff for business needs and develop project plan.
- Assist with updating airport's Snow and Ice Control Plan to support winter weather snow removal activities.
- Assist with other ad hoc priority projects.
Minimum Qualifications
- Enrollment at a college or university at the time of the internship
- Major in Airport Management, Public Policy, Public Administration, Civil Engineering, Finance, Accounting, or related discipline
- Experience with Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, OneDrive, etc.
Desired Qualifications
- Attention to detail and flexibility to manage multiple high-priority, long-term projects simultaneously
- Strong Microsoft Excel and data analysis skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Familiarity with data visualization
- Familiarity with AutoCAD, Adobe Suite, ArcGIS, Microsoft Power BI
- Interest in public service and/or transportation
- Willingness to learn
Internship Details
- The start date will be Thursday, May 28, 2026
- The internship will last approximately 12 weeks, ending on Friday, August 21, 2026
- This is a full-time internship (5 days per week at 7.25 hours per day)
- In accordance with Port Authority policy, this position permits interns to work remotely a maximum of one day per week. In person collaboration is essential to how the Port Authority conducts business and regular in-office days or team collaboration days may be required depending on business needs. Some internships may require interns to be fully in-person.

Compensation & Benefits
- The hourly rate range is $18.07 to $30.31 (the exact rate will be determined by internship type and rising school year)
