Organization Overview
In 2011, First Tee – West Michigan officially became a chapter of First Tee. We are one of 150 chapters worldwide that are part of a global non-profit youth initiative founded in 1997 by the World Golf Foundation. First Tee uses golf and character education to give young people of all backgrounds the opportunity to develop life-enhancing values such as honesty, integrity, and sportsmanship.
Through life skills, leadership, and golf activities, participants learn positive traits that support long-term personal success. Our Life Skills & Golf Experience curriculum sets us apart from many junior golf programs.
At First Tee – West Michigan, we focus on engaging at-risk and underserved youth, helping them discover the beauty of the golf course, build confidence, and develop meaningful relationships. In 2025, we worked with 2,400 participants across West Michigan.
Position Description
The Marketing & Communications Intern will assist the Marketing & Communications Coordinator with day-to-day execution of marketing and communication initiatives. This includes digital marketing, social media, storytelling, email marketing, event support, and market research. The role includes both desk-based work and on-site involvement at fundraising events and youth programs.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Assist in creating marketing materials, including social media posts, print pieces, email campaigns, and website content
- Conduct market research, analyze audience trends, and track performance metrics
- Support marketing campaigns across digital platforms
- Contribute creative ideas during brainstorming sessions
- Maintain and update First Tee – West Michigan’s website and social media channels
- Capture storytelling content featuring participants, families, donors, coaches, and events
- Attend classes, clinics, golf outings, and golf marathons to gather content
- Help coach six-week First Tee class sessions and support youth programming
- Fulfill online store orders
- Attend all First Tee events during the internship period
Qualifications
Successful candidates will demonstrate:
- Enthusiasm for golf and passion for First Tee’s mission
- Creativity in storytelling, content creation, and short-form video
- General golf knowledge and enjoyment of working with youth ages 7–17
- Strong writing, editing, and communication skills
- Comfort with digital tools such as: HubSpot, G-Suite, Slack, Google Ads, Adobe Creative Suite, and WordPress
- Strong organization, attention to detail, and time management
- Ability to work independently and within a team
- Flexibility; some nights and weekends required
- Strong interpersonal skills with youth, parents, coaches, donors, and community members
- Accountability, integrity, and a positive attitude
