Exchange Program Internship

12-15 hours/week | 3-month commitment | $1,000 stipend
Ideal for students seeking hands-on experience in international exchange, citizen diplomacy, and global engagement

The World Affairs Council of Kentucky & Southern Indiana is seeking a highly motivated and globally minded college student for our Exchange Program Internship. This internship offers the opportunity to work directly on U.S. Department of State–sponsored international exchange programs, connecting emerging global leaders with communities in Kentucky and Southern Indiana.

You’ll gain hands-on experience in program management, cross-cultural communication, event planning, proposal development, and public diplomacy—all within a fast-paced, mission-driven nonprofit environment.

What You’ll Do:

  • Assist in the planning and implementation of professional and youth exchange programs
  • Conduct research and contribute to writing program proposals and itineraries
  • Coordinate with local partners, government offices, and host families
  • Prepare briefing materials, schedules, and documentation
  • Help organize logistics for group visits and cultural activities
  • Provide general administrative and programmatic support
  •  

What We’re Looking For:

  • A college student or recent graduate with a passion for international relations
  • Excellent writing and research skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • A professional work ethic and strong communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
  • Interest in public diplomacy, global affairs, or nonprofit work
     

Internship Details:

  • Time Commitment: 15–20 hours per week
  • Duration: 3 months
  • Compensation: $1,000 stipend
  • Location: Louisville, KY (some in-person presence required)
     

This is a competitive internship designed to prepare students for careers in international relations, nonprofit management, and citizen diplomacy.
