Time Commitment: 15-20 hours per week, January - April
The City of Eagan is hiring a Communications and Digital Intern!
The Communications and Digital Intern will support the Communications and Engagement team by creating an implementing various communication strategies. This role includes content creation for social media, website, and email platforms, as well as writing, graphic design, video production, and assisting with public relations efforts.
The ideal candidate is creative, enthusiastic, detail-oriented and social media savvy, with a passion for community engagement and storytelling.
Interns will gain hands-on experience and training in many aspects of communications, marketing, speech writing, and communication plan development, while also gaining a good understanding of a government agency.

Essential Position Functions
- Create content for social media channels
- Use social media insights to report on social media performance and inform content
- Assist with the design and execution of communications plans
- Assist with the creation of creative assets to support communication plans (e.g. video, photos, infographics, social media graphics)
- Assist in coordinating digital distribution of content
- Perform content updates on the City website
- Draft press releases, media advisories, and support press outreach efforts
- Use Google Analytics to create reports
- Research, analyze, and share digital practices across competitive landscape
Minimum Qualifications
- Current enrollment in a Communications, Marketing, Digital Media, or related program, or a graduate within the past 12 months from one of these programs or a related program
- Experience working with and/or understanding of the major social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube in a business setting
- Experience working with and/or understanding of social media analytics tools including Facebook Business Suite and Google Analytics
- Experience with design software such as the Adobe Creative Suite and/or Canva
- Experience with image/video editing software
- Strong written and verbal communications skills
