Position Objectives

The Manager of Theater Operations and Hospitality is responsible for all day-to-day theater house operations of the Film Center and is one of the primary public faces of the organization.  This position ensures that all attendees (audience and special guests) have an exemplary experience at the JBFC and collaborates with all departments to further the goals of the organization.  The Manager of Theater Operations and Hospitality is a hybrid position of administrative and house management work.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

SUPERVISORY:

  • Oversee all theater house and hospitality staff (i.e. house staff, box office staff, and wine bar staff) ensuring a strong customer service experience at the theater, Take 3 Wine Bar & Café, and, in conjunction with the Programming and/or Development departments, any events and receptions.
  • In partnership with the Director of Theater Operations and Hospitality, implement and manage company policies of the JBFC as they relate to theater house and hospitality staff, and in collaboration with various departments, create, plan, communicate, and implement new and changed policies and procedures for the theater facility.
  • Coordinate smooth and efficient daily operations for all regular screenings, receptions, special events, and Take 3 Wine Bar & Café, streamlining processes and troubleshooting when necessary.
  • Serve as an ambassador for implementing and monitoring JBFC hospitality standards.

 

OPERATIONS:

  • In collaboration with the Manager of Information Systems, Programming, and Marketing, maintain all performances and sellables for sale in Tessitura.
  • Responsible for inventory for JBFC concession sales and Take 3 Wine Bar & Café.
  • Ensure that all revenue from theater operations (ticket sales, membership sales, concession sales, and wine bar sales) are properly recorded and reconciled.  
  • Regularly deposit cash and drop checks off at the bank.
  • Assist the Director of Theater Operations and Hospitality with scheduling staff and approving payroll payment information via Paychex Time & Labor system.
  • Assist the Director of Theater Operations and Hospitality with theater budgets as well as cost of goods expenses in relation to projected sales at both concessions and the wine bar.

 

HOUSE MANAGEMENT:

  • Serve as House Manager 2 to 3 shifts per week regularly, up to 4 if needed.
  • Directly manage front-of-house staff (ushers, concessionaires, box office staff, A/V staff), and ensure that operations are running in a friendly, safe, courteous, and efficient manner.
  • Conduct ongoing training of the house-staff team, with an emphasis on in-the-moment coaching.
  • Ensure that front of house staff maintain a clean and safe environment that adheres to all health and safety protocols at all times.
  • Assist with oversight of concession inventory and operations.
  • Update digital signage, ticket scanners, and box office POS sales layout.

 

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Must learn and be able to cover all front of house roles and responsibilities as needed.  This includes ushering, concessions, box office, and bartending.
  • Attend and complete all mandatory training and workshops, as required.
  • Perform other related duties, as assigned.

 

Preferred Experience and Qualities:

  • Previous experience in managing a theater, restaurant, hotel, performing arts space, or other venue with significant interaction with the general public.
  • Outstanding personnel management, organizational, customer service, hospitality and trouble shooting skills.
  • Ability to facilitate clear and effective communication between the Theater and all other departments.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Outlook and Excel, is required. 
  • Interest and understanding of the arts (ideally film) and non-profit organizations is vital.
  • Ability to effectively develop and maintain relationships with numerous constituencies (audiences, members, donors, staff, and board).
  • Strong knowledge of ticketing and membership systems.

 

Ideal Applicants Would Have:

  • A love of film.
  • Commitment to nonprofit work a plus.
  • 3-5 years of high-level customer service and hospitality experience with the ability to train staff.

 

Start Date:          ASAP

The Manager of Theater Operations & Hospitality is a flexible full-time position on location at the JBFC Theater.

Hours:                   Shifts may vary Monday–Friday, 9:00am-5:00pm for Administrative shifts and  flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays for House Management shifts as needed, is required.

 

Salary Range:    $45,000.00 - $50,000.00
