Operations Chief – Operations Internship
About GK Media Group
GK Media Group is a mission-driven media startup redefining journalism through structure, transparency, and clarity. Our proprietary technology and disciplined editorial model work together to build a news ecosystem that educates, clarifies, and prepares audiences.
Joining now means stepping in at the ground floor while the core systems, teams, and products are being built.
Role Overview
We’re looking for an Operations Chief (Intern) to become the day-to-day operational backbone of GK Media Group. You’ll coordinate across multiple departments, run the internal rhythm of the organization, and make sure priorities turn into concrete execution.
You’ll work closely with the Executive Director and current operations leadership and will gradually take on substantial responsibility for cross-team coordination, meeting cadence, and process building. This is a high-trust role for someone who enjoys organizing people, information, and workflows.
This position reports directly to the Executive Director and partners closely with existing operations leadership.
What You’ll Do
Cross-Department Coordination
Act as a central operational hub between Editorial, Studio/Podcast, Technology, Marketing, Finance, and Operations.
Turn leadership priorities into clear project plans with owners, timelines, and checkpoints.
Track progress on key initiatives and follow up to resolve blockers and keep teams aligned.
Meetings & Communication
Help design and maintain the recurring meeting structure (weekly all-hands, FSEO meetings, divisional check-ins, project stand-ups).
Prepare agendas and materials so meetings are focused and productive.
Lead or co-lead meetings, keep discussions on track, and define clear decisions and next steps.
Capture notes and action items, then follow up with owners to ensure completion.
Maintain clear internal communication across Slack, email, and project management tools.
Systems, Processes, and Documentation
Build and refine operational systems for task tracking, information flow, and internal documentation.
Organize and maintain structures in Google Workspace, Notion, and related tools so documents and workflows are easy to find and use.
Draft and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for recurring workflows (hiring, onboarding, content workflows, meeting rhythms, etc.).
Create simple trackers and dashboards to give leadership visibility into priorities and deadlines.
People & Onboarding Support
Coordinate operational aspects of hiring and onboarding across divisions (scheduling, documentation, access, tools).
Ensure new team members have what they need on day one and understand how to navigate GK’s systems.
Help reinforce expectations around responsiveness, preparation, and documentation.
Strategic Operations Support
Work with leadership to prioritize projects and sequence work realistically.
Turn high-level goals into timelines and coordination plans.
Help keep near-term tasks aligned with launch timelines and longer-term company objectives.
What You’ll Gain
Direct, hands-on experience running operations in an early-stage media/tech startup.
Close collaboration with the Executive Director and division leads.
Real ownership over systems, processes, and meeting cadences that the entire company will rely on.
A strong portfolio of concrete outcomes—launches, workflows, and structures you helped build.
Qualifications
Strong organizational and project management skills; comfortable handling many moving pieces at once.
Excellent written and verbal communication; clear, concise, and responsive.
Comfortable leading or co-leading meetings and guiding groups toward decisions and action items.
High attention to detail with a strong bias toward follow-through and documentation.
Experience in operations, project management, student leadership, chief-of-staff–type work, or similar is a plus.
Familiarity with Google Workspace, Slack, Notion, or project management tools—or the ability to pick them up quickly.
Able to work in a fast-moving environment where processes are still being built.
