2026 Summer Internship - Strategic Programming

About The Clearing House: The Clearing House (TCH) is a banking association and payments company that is owned by the largest commercial banks in the United States. TCH owns and operates the core payments system infrastructure in the US and is currently working to modernize that infrastructure by launching a new, ubiquitous, real-time payment system. TCH is the only private-sector ACH and wire operator in the US, clearing and settling nearly $2 trillion in US dollar payments each day, representing half of all commercial ACH and wire volume. TCH has provided critical services to the banking industry since 1853, and today, our core products facilitate services including Direct Deposit of payroll, bill payments, and check image exchange.

About TCH Strategic Program Management Group Office: The Clearing House (TCH) Strategic Program Management Group Office (SPMO) is a centralized function within the Strategy organization, responsible for the program management and governance of enterprise level strategic initiatives. The team’s goal is to be responsive to the needs of the firm as directed by the Leadership team, delivering against the firm’s top initiatives and strategic imperatives. SPMG ensures that programs are managed in a consistent, methodical and programmatic fashion by a central team of program managers. This companywide function will enable our staff, the leadership team, our clients, and our governance bodies to stay connected, understand roles and responsibilities, and prioritize and drive further discipline for our enterprise-level strategic programs that continue to transform The Clearing House.

About TCH Strategic Program Management Group Summer Internship Program: TCH’s Strategic Program Management Group Summer Internship Program is a 10-week experience for rising college juniors and seniors interested in the field of program management. Interns will be in either New York City or Winston-Salem, NC. Over the course of the 10-week program, interns will have the opportunity to gain exposure to large-scale initiatives that drive The Clearing House’ strategic priorities. While working within our Strategic Program Management Office department, each intern is assigned a hands-on project, which culminates in a presentation to senior leadership. Opportunities for the 2026 Summer Internship Program will have a focus on, but not limited to, the following responsibilities:

  • Support the team in maintaining project plans and other documentation
  • Identify and analyze useful program data to create insightful management reports and decision-support materials
  • Evaluate tools and processes to improve on program governance mechanisms to monitor progress, resolve issues and manage risks
  • Communicate effectively across different departments and amongst varying levels of seniority within the organization, capturing key actions and decisions
  • Assist in identifying, managing, and escalating project risks and issues in timely manner
  • Contribute to the development and enhancement of program management standards, processes, templates, and best practices across TCH
  • Analyze and synthesize project information to ensure alignment and compliance with SPMO standards and overall strategic direction
  • Manage meeting action items, follow-ups, stakeholder engagement, and scheduling activities

Skills, Experience, and Qualifications Required:

  • Currently enrolled, rising junior or senior, pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Change Management, Information Technology or a related area
  • A curiosity to learn, a positive attitude, and a strong work ethic are a must-have
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint skills
  • Excellent analytical skills, attention to detail, problem-solving, and multi-tasking abilities
  • Ability to work both independently and in a collaborative environment
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills – both written and verbal
  • Ability to take initiative, follow through on tasks, and get the work done
  • Proactively ask questions and engage team members for clarification or input

Skills, Experience, and Qualifications Desired:

  • Understanding of key program management
    • Concepts such as planning, implementation, delivery, and reporting
    • Artifacts such as program charters, project plans, RACI models, and RAID logs
  • Familiarity with key program management methodologies such as Agile, Waterfall, etc., and tools such as JIRA and MS Project Plan
  • Experience creating or maintaining project timelines, dashboards, and related documentation is a plus

Physical demands and work environment: Work is generally sedentary in nature. The working environment is generally favorable. Lighting and temperature are adequate, and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. Work is generally performed within an office environment, with standard office equipment available.

Employees in this position will report to the office 3 days per week. Onsite work requirements may change at any time.

New York Salary Announcement: The anticipated hourly rate range for this position is $20-$25. Hourly rate will be determined by the role, experience, skill set and location.
