Role Description

We are currently looking for an experienced Human Resources Manager to oversee all aspects of human resources practices and processes. This includes recruiting, compensation, maintaining policies and procedures, employee relations, benefits, and performance management. 


 

The ideal candidate will have relevant work experience in HR, with a thorough understanding of HR policies and procedures. The bulk of the role will involve payroll and benefits administration, recruiting and employee onboarding, conflict resolution, and employee relations. There is a great opportunity for developing or refining current processes. Industry-related experience, strong interpersonal and written communication skills, and effective leadership and organization abilities will set a candidate apart.

Reporting Structure

Reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) 

Manages administrative staff, including Administrative Assistant and/or Front Desk Receptionist


 


 



 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Knowledge of a broad range of human resource strategies and practices, including compensation, performance management, safety, recruiting, and employee relations; able to apply these strategies and practices in compliance with employment regulations

Updated on legal requirements and will ensure the organization’s HR practices are compliant

Cultivates professional knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies

Develop and maintain engagement initiatives that resonate with employees

PRINCIPAL DUTIES 

Develop and implement effective recruitment strategies to attract top talent

Participate in the interview, selection, hiring, and onboarding processes of new hires

Oversee and manage recruitment of temporary employees, communicate needs with agencies, schedule interviews for supervisors, and communicate when the release of a temporary employee is necessary

Maintain and negotiate contracts with staffing agencies with support from leadership

Ensure job descriptions are up to date and compliant with all local, state, and federal regulations

Oversee the administration of employee compensation, benefits, and payroll

Manage relationships with benefits providers and ensure employees are well-informed about their options

Administer bi-monthly payroll process to ensure accurate and timely payment of wages and salaries

Ensure compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements related to payroll

Coordinate with the accounting department to reconcile and resolve any discrepancies

Manage payroll records, including employee timekeeping, leave balances, and deductions

Implement and maintain payroll systems, ensuring they are up-to-date and efficient

Conduct salary benchmarking and market analysis to determine appropriate pay scales

Assist leadership team with performance reviews

Develop training materials and performance management programs to help ensure employees understand their job responsibilities

Develop and manage the performance appraisal process to ensure clear communication of expectations and feedback

Work with supervisors to establish performance improvement plans (PIPs) for underperforming employees

Ensure that leadership is accessible and approachable, fostering a culture where employees feel valued and heard

Coordinate and supervise the work of support staff 

Develop clear and accurate job descriptions tailored to support staff roles, such as administrative assistants and receptionists

Oversee the onboarding process, ensuring that new support staff receive the necessary training and resources to begin their roles effectively

Arrange for front desk phone coverage when necessary (meal breaks, vacations, etc.)

Maintain company organization charts and employee directory

Conduct regular performance evaluations for support staff, providing constructive feedback and setting goals for improvement

Provide opportunities for continuous learning and development to help staff grow within the organization, such as learning payroll, employee onboarding, and worker's comp injury reporting to be the backup when needed

Recognize and reward outstanding performance through incentives

Plan and organize annual Company holiday parties: Halloween potluck, Thanksgiving catered meal and milestone anniversary celebration, Christmas party 

Ensure staff are aware of and adhere to company policies, including attendance, dress code, and conduct standards

Ensure legal compliance by monitoring and implementing applicable federal and state requirements

Maintain accurate employment records and ensure compliance with storage and retention requirements

Develop, implement, and enforce HR policies and procedures and ensure policies are applied consistently

Coordinate with legal counsel when necessary to mitigate risk

Represent the organization at hearings

Foster a positive environment through the development and implementation of engagement initiatives

Serve as a consultant to advise other leaders on human resources issues

Mediate and resolve conflicts between employees or between employees and management

Investigate employee issues and conflicts and bring them to resolution

Provide coaching and support to employees and managers on performance-related issues

Implement programs to recognize and reward employees for their hard work, achievements, and contributions to the organization

Regularly solicit feedback from employees through surveys, focus groups, and one-on-one meetings to identify areas for improvement

Encourage internal promotions and transfers, giving employees the chance to explore new roles within the company and advance their careers

Manage the process of employee terminations, including voluntary resignations, layoffs, and involuntary terminations

Ensure termination procedures are conducted in compliance with legal and organizational guidelines

Conduct exit interviews and provide feedback to management

Coordinate with legal counsel when necessary to manage risks associated with termination

Oversee the offboarding process, including the return of company property, discontinuation of access to systems, and final paycheck processing

Assist with safety-related processes 

Collaborate with the safety team to develop and implement workplace safety policies and procedures

Support the development and delivery of safety training programs for employees

Act as a liaison between employees and the safety team to address safety concerns and issues

Promote a culture of safety by encouraging proactive reporting of hazards and near-misses

Manage worker’s compensation files and records

Following a report, communicate with injured employees, adjusters, and brokers 

Ensure the organization’s compliance with local, state, and federal safety regulations and standards

Ensure strict adherence to safety guidelines and company standards

May be required to attend bi-annual worker’s compensation training meeting out-of-state


 

EDUCATION

Must be 18 years of age or older

High School Diploma (or equivalent) required

A bachelor’s degree in human resources, labor relations, organizational development, business, or related area preferred

Relevant work experience may be a substitute for a degree

3+ years' experience working in a supervisory role

5+ years of experience in progressively responsible human resource roles

PHR/SPHR certification preferred

Local or National SHRM membership preferred


 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Sitting often - at a desk, operating computer

Standing/walking often - throughout the manufacturing facility 

Office environment has AC, shop environment is without AC and can be hot/cold


 

Dress code is business casual: no tank tops, no shorts (casual day most Fridays)

Safety-toed shoes required while in the shop

All employees are required to wear eye protection while in the shop


 

COMPENSATION

Exempt position; Salary range: $95,000 to $115,000 annually

Final compensation will be determined and based on experience

This range is a good faith estimate of the expected salary for this position, based on a wide range of factors including qualifications, experience and training, operational and business needs, and other considerations permitted by law

Quarterly bonus option available for most employees
