Human Resources Intern
NATURE OF WORK
This position serves the public by performing technical and administrative duties of a confidential nature for the Human Resources Department.
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Under the direction of the Human Resources Generalist, this employee performs work of moderate difficulty through completing administrative tasks, maintaining records and personnel files, supporting recruitment needs, and assisting with planning and executing employee engagement events.
EXAMPLES OF WORK
Provides administrative support to the Human Resources Department.
Fields questions and relates information on employee benefits, policies, and procedures by providing general information and referring complex inquiries to HR staff..
Assist in data entry and maintenance of employee records.
Assists in the recruitment process by scheduling interviews, conducting and evaluating job testing, and coordinating pre-employment functions.
Assists in planning, preparing, and executing employee engagement events, including researching event ideas, running errands, and other necessary tasks as assigned.
Assists in developing communications, creating and tracking participation, and maintaining scheduling of employee training initiatives.
Participates in the onboarding process by preparing onboarding materials, assisting with new hire orientations, and ensuring forms are complete and properly routed.
Process invoices for payment and ensure timely and accurate payments with oversight from HR staff.
Ability to maintain reasonable and predictable attendance.
May be required to drive to remote sites on occasion.
Adheres to all safety procedures, practices, and requirements.
Provides superior internal and external customer service.
Represents Four Rivers Sanitation Authority and its policies in a positive manner internally and externally.
Performs other duties as assigned by Management.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs)
Basic knowledge of human resources principles and practices , with an interest in learning HR functions.
Working skill in the use of computer and electronic systems including Microsoft Office. Ability to learn new software programs, including Tyler Munis.
Possesses strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
Ability to manage multiple assignments with attention to detail.
Ability to operate a smartphone to use relevant applications, including monitoring e-mail, responding to text messaging, and phone calls.
Ability to accurately record time and attendance through an electronic timekeeping system.
Must demonstrate excellent internal and external customer service skills.
Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and providing excellent customer service.
Ability to understand and enforce all safety practices and procedures as required by the work assignment.
Ability to maintain reasonable and customary attendance.
WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Work is performed primarily in an office setting and is essentially sedentary with occasional walking, lifting, bending, and carrying items under 25 pounds such as paper and files. Work requires periods of extended computer use and performing tasks with set deadlines and volume processing. Work may require travel to work sites.
ACCEPTING EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
Must currently be enrolled in an accredited college with a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester; One (1) year of office clerical experience preferred; or any equivalent of training and experience. Must be 18 years of age at the time of hire.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Illinois driver's license with a driving record suitable to Four Rivers.
