Community Action House is a nonprofit founded in 1969 to serve our neighbors in need, and today we are powered by 70+ staff and over 2,800+ volunteers who make our high-impact services possible. Our People & Culture team operates within a tech forward, mission-driven organization focused on community impact and employee well-being. We are seeking a compassionate and detail-oriented individual who thrives on building genuine relationships and is excited to support both staff and organizational goals. As an HR Intern, you will work alongside our People & Culture Associate while reporting to our Manager of People & Culture to assist with tasks and projects across various functional areas.
This role requires adaptability, strong communication skills, and a proactive mindset. Responsibilities & Essential Duties
- Contribute to HR functional areas such as Talent Acquisition, Talent Development, Onboarding & Offboarding, Culture & Experience, and Employee Engagement & Retention.
- Organize and deliver employee engagement activities and events.
- Participate in HR projects and initiatives, including our robust and inclusive Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) projects focused on opportunity for all.
- Assist with HR compliance and documentation, including upcoming Benefits Enrollment.
- Deliver general administrative support to the HR team including data entry, documentation, and projects as assigned.
- Other duties as assigned.
Supervision Received
- Specific Direction: Receives detailed work instructions or guidance for performing repetitive tasks. Supervisor monitors progress and provides feedback or correction as needed to ensure that tasks are completed according to expectations.
Education & Experience
- No prior experience required
- No supervisory experience required
- High School Diploma required. Some college preferred; or in place of a degree, equivalent years of experience
- Bilingual in Spanish or Khmer preferred

- Demonstrated interest and passion for Human Resources, with a focus on supporting collaborative company cultures, fueling employee engagement and retention.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines. Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, event-driven environment. A focus on specifics while seeing tasks to completion.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with staff, volunteers, and community members. Proficiency in clear and effective written and verbal communication in English, with language skills in Spanish and/or Khmer a bonus.
- Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people from a variety of backgrounds.
- Demonstrated respect for confidentiality and privacy.
- Passion for continuous learning based on your professional interests and organizational needs.
- Previous experience in business or human resources preferred, as well as current studies in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, Organizational Psychology, or a related field.
