Early Childhood Guide

Acton Academy Lake Oswego is a small, Christian microschool opening our first early childhood studio in Fall 2026. We blend Montessori, Reggio Emilia, and hands-on, learner-driven education to help children grow in curiosity, confidence, and character.

We’re looking for an Early Childhood Learning Guide who loves children, asks great questions, and is excited about a non-traditional approach to education. This is not a traditional teaching role. Instead, you’ll mentor young learners as they explore, solve problems, build independence, and discover their unique gifts.

What You’ll Do

  • Build warm, trusting relationships with children ages 4–7
  • Model calm, focused work habits and independence
  • Help establish daily routines and a joyful studio culture
  • Lead playful, hands-on activities and simple Montessori/Reggio-inspired lessons
  • Facilitate small-group conversations and curiosity-driven exploration
  • Support children as they learn at their own pace and solve their own problems
  • Maintain a beautiful, orderly studio environment
  • Observe learners and document growth in simple, meaningful ways
  • Collaborate with co-founders as we build and refine a brand-new school

Who You Are

  • You genuinely love being with young children and see them as capable
  • You’re curious, patient, creative, and flexible
  • You ask great questions instead of giving quick answers
  • You communicate clearly, calmly, and kindly
  • You’re comfortable with independence and take initiative
  • You value continuous learning and enjoy experimenting and trying new ideas
  • You’re interested in Montessori, Reggio Emilia, or learner-driven education (experience not required)
  • You appreciate a warm, faith-friendly environment and want to help build a new school community

Preferred Majors (Not Required)

Psychology, Sociology, Christian Ministries, Communications, Art, Liberal Arts, Biology, Interdisciplinary Studies — or anyone drawn to developmental work with young children.
