Development Intern

DEVELOPMENT INTERN

The National Comedy Center is currently seeking candidates for its 2026 internship program. This internship offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience at an award-winning non-profit cultural institution and national destination. The state-of-the-art National Comedy Center was recently named the “Best New Museum” in the country by USA Today and one of the “World’s Greatest Places” by TIME magazine. 

The Development Intern will support the daily operations of the Development department by assisting with administrative tasks, data entry, and research tasks. This role plays an important part in advancing the organization’s fundraising initiatives and membership programs through accurate record-keeping, thoughtful research, and efficient departmental support. 

This internship will be on-site in Jamestown, NY, for the Summer 2026 season with the potential for extension beyond the summer. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support and participate in a wide variety of development tasks including research, database management, analytics, front line fundraising and outreach, cultivation, and stewardship while learning about the day-to-day operations of a non-profit development department.
  • Conduct biographical/financial/philanthropical research on current and prospective donors/members.
  • Assist with entering data regarding current and prospective donor/member information and interactions in the Raiser’s Edge CRM database. 
  • Help identify new prospects: major donors, annual donors, and members.
  • Help organize, plan, and execute fundraising and membership email and direct mail campaigns.
  • Assist with securing and stewarding sponsors for the 2026 Lucille Ball Comedy Festival.
  • Assist in sponsor/donor stewardship and hospitality.
  • Perform other duties as appropriate and necessary.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be independent and self-motivated.
  • Strong writing and communication skills required; must be outgoing and comfortable speaking confidently with donors and sponsors. 
  • Ability to commit to 15-20 hours per week; hours are flexible.
  • All interns must complete at least 4 hours each week on the museum floor to learn attraction operations, interact with visitors, and increase comedy knowledge.
  • Hours may increase to full-time during the week before and the week of the Lucille Ball Comedy Festival in August; schedules can be arranged with a supervisor. 
  • Interns will use their personal laptops during the internship; alternate arrangements can be discussed upon acceptance.
