Job Summary: The Safety Intern will assist in the development, implementation, and improvement of safety programs across all company operations, including field electrical work (industrial, commercial, agricultural, and residential), warehouse operations, and the electric motor repair shop. This role provides hands-on experience in workplace safety, compliance auditing, and employee training within a dynamic electrical services environment.

 

Learning Outcomes:

  • Gain practical experience applying safety standards in the electrical construction industry
  • Learn to conduct safety inspections, risk assessments, and root cause analysis
  • Exposure to regulatory compliance within 29 CFR 1910, and 1926

 

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct inspections of all jobsites and campus locations
  • Participate in incident investigation and root cause analysis
  • Assist in maintaining compliance with company policies and regulatory standards such as OSHA, NFPA 70E, EPA, DOT, etc.
  • Support hazard assessments, toolbox talks, and pre-task planning
  • Maintain safety documentation
  • Assist with vehicle inspections and DOT requirements
  • Assist with safety orientation of all new employees
  • Assist with reviewing, developing, and implementing all safety policies
  • Research or procurement of all PPE and safety items needed; Distribution of all PPE and maintain all employee issued PPE records
  • Liaison between jobsites/employees and management regarding safety policies and safety equipment
  • Attend monthly Safety Committee meetings
  • Related duties as needed or assigned

 

Required Qualifications: 

  • High school diploma or GED 
  • Knowledge of and how to use Microsoft Office products 
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills 
  • Ability to work efficiently on their own, be a self-starter
  • Be a team player with the willingness to help others within the department, as well as within the company
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work, ability to multi-task
  • Ability to communicate with PDC employees in a professional & competent manner
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, and climb for extended periods of time
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Completion of OSHA 10 Hour or OSHA 30 Hour training
  • Knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1910 and 1926
  • Knowledge of NFPA 70/70E/70B
  • Good attendance history

 

Working Conditions: 

  • Industrial Hazards including electrical, mechanical, gravity, etc.
  • Varying weather conditions (Indoor and outdoor work in all conditions)
  • Varying customer environments (Food Grade, Chemical, Agriculture, Etc.)
  • Varying schedules & extended hours
