Accounting Technician
Under direction of management personnel, performs a wide variety of complex and responsible accounting and clerical duties. Does related work as required. QUALIFICATIONS: Required: • High school diploma or equivalent of the completion of the twelfth grade, supplemented by course work or training in accounting or bookkeeping obtained through a community college, trade, or correspondence school. May be substituted by experience of a closely related nature. • Two years of increasingly responsible experience in bookkeeping or accounting. • Passage of the District’s Clerical Test with an 85% on written and 45 wpm typing. Desirable: • Experience working in a school district or county office of education KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITY: General Knowledge and Ability: • Knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures of accounting. • Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures including computers and software. • Knowledge of good record keeping techniques. • Knowledge of proper English usage. • Ability to operate necessary office equipment including computers and calculators. • Ability to perform mathematical calculations quickly and accurately. Specifically for this Position: • Ability to analyze financial data and prepare accurate records and reports. • Ability to carry out oral and written directions. • Ability to communicate effectively. • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships. • Ability to assist compiling and analyzing financial and statistical information and data. • Ability to assure that assigned tasks are completed within established time or reporting deadlines. • Ability to be flexible and receptive to change. • Ability to performs basic numeric and statistic work in addition to a full range of clerical support tasks. • Ability to be responsible for an assigned set of accounts requiring prescribed processing of financial records or data. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Reviews, maintains, and processes fiscal/accounting records and transactions related to accounts payable and accounts receivable. • Reviews and corrects a variety of documents for accuracy and compliance with rules and regulations including travel claims, purchase orders, expenditure/revenue transfers, warrant cancellations, journal entries, deposit forms, etc. • Posts, checks, assembles, tabulates, audits and compares statistical and financial data; enters data into computer. • Makes and verifies extensions, does routine posting and assists in preparing financial and statistical reports. • Receives and posts payments, transfers, and reconciliation logs. Maintains and audits districts revolving fund account and logs. • Checks documents for proper budget authorization before processing. • Maintains fiscal records and/or worksheets for all calculations, extensions, and verifications related to record keeping for assigned accounting and/or fiscal areas including accounts receivable and accounts payable. • Assists in making financial and statistical reports or records and accounts maintained. • Prepares monthly and special billings for payment; logs and write warrant requests or checks and submits for proper authorization. • Acts as a resource person for the district regarding individuals specialized program area(s), and the general public, explaining procedures and processes of assigned programs. and updates procedures based on federal, state, and internal changes. • May prepare journal vouchers, entries to provide full documentation for all record keeping functions related to assigned department, program area(s) and/or district accounts. • Prepare and file reports to federal, state, and local agencies. • May process school attendance forms. Oversight of district vendor accounts. • Operates computers and other office machines. • Types forms, reports and correspondence. • Answers telephone, takes messages, provides information. • Copies, folds, sorts and distributes materials. • Performs other fiscal related duties as assigned.
