OVERVIEW: 

 

SUPPORT SOLUTIONS OF THE MID-SOUTH (SSMS) is an organization dedicated to providing high-quality services to adults and children with intellectual and developmental disabilities.  We are seeking a mature, team-oriented, and dependable professional with proven skills and capabilities as an Assistant Controller to support financial reporting activities and accounting processes across the regions we serve in TN and NC.  This position will report to the Controller in a standalone role but may eventually encompass some direct and indirection supervision.  It will require collaboration across many internal organizations, people, and locations in a fast-paced environment.   

 

This is a full-time salaried position offering medical and other health-related coverage, paid time off, retirement savings and other benefits.  Bachelor’s degree in relevant accounting/business program required; CPA preferred.  Salary commensurate with experience.  Review the “Minimum Requirements” within for specific capabilities. 

 

GENERAL FUNCTION: 

 

Supports the Controller in a variety of activities, including financial reporting (including timely book close management), financial planning, accounting process/system review/design, and finance/accounting policy development and enforcement.  Initial responsibilities will encompass detailed learning of various accounting functions and processes to identify ways to improve efficiencies and reduce errors/reporting risks, with expectations for hands on involvement to research, make corrections, and put in place new processes and procedures to better support timely and accurate reporting.       

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

 

Assistant Controller 

Support the evaluation and operation of financial programs and supporting information systems to include AR/AP/Payroll accounting processes, financial reporting, budgeting, tax planning, real estate, and conservation of assets. 

Identify, evaluate, and submit for implementation approval any potential changes and improvements in automated financial and management reporting systems. 

Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal reporting requirements. 

Monitor and support daily and ongoing processes around billing, revenue, expenditures (including AP, Payroll, Benefits, Fleet, and Real Estate) to ensure book closing timing is met and regular monthly reporting can be produced on a defined schedule.  This should ultimately lead to the ability to produce granular P&L views into all Program areas for better strategic management within those organizations. 

Collaborate in the preparation and review of financial statements, financial reports, special analyses, and information reports. 

Help develop and implement finance, accounting, billing, and auditing procedures, and help monitor internal control safeguards.  

Provide back-up support to the Controller for certain daily/weekly functions around electronic payment processing, positive pay files, bank deposits, payroll review/funding, etc. 

Very limited, but occasional, travel may be needed.

Qualifications

MINIIMUM REQUIREMENTS: 

 

Bachelor’s degree REQUIRED in finance/accounting, business management, or related field.  CPA preferred. 

Strong experience with QuickBooks is highly desired. 

Above average experience in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.  Ability to independently create, analyze, and communicate through complex spreadsheets and documents. 

Above average experience in computer usage and technology skills (including, but not limited to Microsoft Outlook, Teams, etc.).   

Excellent oral, written, interpersonal, and organizational skills. 

Some supervisory experience preferred. 

 

LICENSES/CERTIFICATES (must be maintained throughout employment): 

 

Valid regular Driver’s License.  

Valid automobile insurance.
