Data Science Intern Summer 2026
DOCSI is seeking a talented, driven data scientist to join our engineering team for the summer of 2026. We need a passionate and creative mind to help us continue building our cutting edge surgical waste elimination platform. The person who accepts this role will not only work closely with and learn from our Directors of Engineering and Product. They will also benefit from full exposure to the inner workings and decision making challenges of an early stage startup. We aim for this experience to provide an unrivaled learning opportunity for new software engineers, providing meaningful work projects in a crucial period of high growth for our company.
This role will:
- Work alongside the Director of Engineering and other brilliant DOCSI engineers to build and maintain our web platform.
- Design and create machine learning tools to amplify the quality of surgical waste reduction recommendations.
- Explore cutting-edge ML and AI models to solve complex healthcare logistics problems
- Write code that goes directly into the hands of customers – no intern projects that never see the light of day here!
- Participate in critical design discussions that determine the future direction of our product.
- Gain access and connections to key members of the Twin Cities startup community.
- Help shape the culture of a new and growing engineering team.
Qualifications:
- 1-3 years of an undergraduate Data Science/Computer Science education or equivalent learning experience
- A solid comprehension of core Data Science principles and best practices
- Fundamental understanding of Git (or equivalent version control) and how to manage branches and merges
- Action driven self-starter who enjoys improving existing processes
- Lifelong learning mindset with a desire to explore new ideas and connect them to their work
- Ability to work in an ambiguous, fast-paced environment
Also a plus:
- An interest in working in startups or early-stage companies
- Experience with Python, R, or other common statistical programming languages
- Experience integrating with LLMs or other publicly available AI tools
- An educational background/experience in healthcare and/or supply chain
