Position: Bureau & VIP Associate
Type of Position: Full-time position based in New York City
Report to: Project Manager
Start Date: Jan 5, 2026
Compensation: $45,000-$55,000
Independent is looking for an Associate to work on two exciting, growing initiatives: VIP Relations and the Independent Bureau Press Room. This hybrid role offers a unique opportunity to work across our entire gallery, collector, press, and institutional client base. It is a perfect position for an intellectually curious candidate looking to expand their knowledge of the commercial and curatorial art world and the players within it.
Responsibilities:
- Support VIP Leadership on all Independent fairs and events
- Work with project management, ticketing, and database software to ensure data integrity and success across the organization
- Work with galleries and the press to build and maintain the Independent Bureau Press Room
- Support Museum Relations
- Collaborate across teams on common goals
- General administrative tasks
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Art History, Arts Administration, Arts Journalism, or related field
- Demonstrable knowledge of contemporary and 20th Century art
- 1+ years of relevant experience working across client services or media relations within the art world
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Highly organized, proactive, detail-oriented
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and shifting priorities
- Comfortable working in fast-paced, deadline-driven, event-oriented environments, including occasional evenings/weekends
Nice to have
- Prior experience working in an art fair, biennial, or large-scale exhibition setting
- Basic knowledge of ticketing software platforms and database management
- Understanding of press operations, editorial workflows, and media engagement
