Summer Intern - Financial Analyst

Job Description

Aristides Capital is a $300mm long/short hedge fund with an exceptional 17-year track record. We are looking for a smart and curious summer intern who can show initiative and follow-through on wide-ranging projects. We are flexible on start and end dates but targeting 2+ months this summer. The primary job task is to assist our research analysts and portfolio managers with developing new fundamental and potentially quantitative investment ideas as well as monitoring existing positions and strategies.

We love reading compelling academic finance concepts and working on implementing them. We also specialize in researching micro-cap companies most investors have never heard of.

We’re a small team of eight who routinely engage in thoughtful debate and encourage an intellectually honest workplace environment. Friendly disagreement is encouraged, as well as $1 bets to settle differing hypotheses.

Sample projects may include:

  • Writing simple 1-page summaries of companies along with a basic valuation framework
  • Financial modeling and data entry
  • Reading SEC filings and summarizing key data fields in our proprietary database
  • Wide ranging review of academic literature and short reports
  • Monitoring proprietary dashboards for trade ideas across various market niches
  • Synthesizing fast-breaking, actionable news

Required skills:

Integrity, intelligence, self-starter / strong follow-up, interest in finance, detail-oriented, enjoyment of puzzles and figuring things out

Candidate must be willing to learn from mistakes and update prior beliefs in the presence of new information.

Optional, but appreciated:

  • Bloomberg Terminal experience
  • Financial statement/accounting literacy
  • Financial market knowledge, especially equity long/short strategies
