About the Opportunity

The Bureau is seeking two Instructional Design Interns to collaborate with our team in developing engaging microlearning content that supports Virginia’s public procurement training catalog. This hands-on internship, funded by the National Association of State Procurement Officials (NASPO), provides the chance to apply instructional design principles, gain experience with professional authoring tools, and contribute to statewide learning initiatives that make a real impact in public service.

 

What We’re Looking For

We value interns who are curious, detail-oriented, and excited to bring fresh ideas to learning design. Successful candidates are students that demonstrate creativity, initiative, and a strong commitment to quality and learner engagement. Some experience or coursework in Instructional Design and/or Procurement is preferred.

 

Responsibilities and Learning Tasks:

Interns will work closely with subject matter experts (SMEs) and the Instructional Design team to:

  1. Develop Microlearning Modules: Use the Articulate 360 suite (Storyline, Rise, Review) to design short, interactive learning experiences.
  2. Support LMS Integration: Build and publish content to the Virginia Institute of Procurement (VIP) Learning Management System, currently Absorb.
  3. Organize and Document Assets: Maintain project files and version control through the Bureau’s SharePoint site.
  4. Collaborate and Iterate: Participate in design reviews, apply feedback, and ensure materials meet accessibility and branding standards.

 

Knowledge and Skills required: 

  • Strong writing and editing skills with attention to detail
  • Familiarity with e-learning or design software (e.g., Articulate, Adobe, Captivate)
  • Ability to apply design thinking and creativity to instructional materials
  • Basic understanding of adult learning principles or instructional design models (ADDIE, SAM, etc.)
  • Comfortable working both independently and collaboratively in a professional setting
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
